My favourite kdelook.org wallpaper ever.
Good subject, good shot, great colors.
It also scales good (1280x1024).
Please, more :)

I'm a cooker ML reader, and I still haven't found why it was not done by the mdk team, although they were told to...
Now, when the mdk package? :)

Ignore the previous hint, I missed the semicolons:
- "<" ==> "<"
- ">" ==> >"

Daniele - Feb 12 2003
couldn't you patch it so that the shadow is proportional to screen-size, rather than using fixed values?
Moreover, you could address this issue to the guys at kde, so that the might include your patch into kde cvs.

Daniele

Hint: you should be able to write "less than" writing "&lt", and "more than" writing "&gt" (this are html entities) - Feb 12 2003

If these exist it is because of your theme :)
I'll let you know if I discover what to do with the dnd cursor.
Thanks :)

I wouldn't like the still-only version, but it is getting better as you put more colors in it.
Still, I think there are too many grays, especially dark ones.
I think you should aim at making a theme that looks metallish in the way it reflects and feels, but without a dominant color.
That would be a great service to the kde, a stylish icon theme that would fit with any colorscheme or style or windec.

Good job

Both the idea and the presentation.
But I think this has nothing to do with what kde is right now.
This could be developed with kde/qt components, but it is not the same as kicker.
This is something utterly new, which is quite better, that would definitely give kde an its own personality, lokk and feel.
Still, for migration matters, kde default should be a more panel-like thing.
Very, very good job

and nice.
Anyhow, the background is IMHO too light to be used on a daily basis.
Maybe you could add some more eye-relaxing tint.

Very nice idea :)

... a version with the scrollbars' sliders coloured after the titlebar this style & windec (which already are my favourites) would definitely be the very best on the scene :)

(I konw this wouldn't meet qnx phlosophy, you could give it another name if you had to :-)

that's why I've never been a theme designer :)

Daniele - Nov 03 2002
The fact is that this site is about look, and the average user is more likely to judge the graphics rather than the idea.
The proof is that I had first uploaded a very bad-looking demo themed panel, and though the idea was exactly the same, people wouldn't comment nor take part in the discussion (read the comment about thew LCD clock!).

So, I had to provide a stylish screenshot to have people reading the post.

In the post I actually ask a programmer's point of view, but I had no response.

I didn't mean to be rude with you, I apologize if I gave this impression

Daniele - Nov 03 2002
... some of you guys just look at the screenshots and don't read the text on its side.
I'm not proposing to design a kicker looking like this one, but one that would let users customize its look by means of themes; the screenshot is an example of a "possible" theme, that is "just one of possibly an unlimited number of ways your kicker could look/behave".
The discussion should be about the concept, not the picture.

Moreover, keep in mind that there are themes and themes, that is you will have themes which are very usable and less eye-candy, some others which will be just the opposite, few themes which will combine great look and feel and ease of use.

Daniele - Nov 03 2002
As kicker is on his way up to now, I myswlf think the idea would be more likely realized if it was developed as another application.

Daniele - Nov 03 2002
making kicker really themable would require lots of work, possibly an almost complete rewrite of some of its components.
Even if the idea was seriously take into account, I think this couldn't find its way before kde 3.3 / 3.4 (or, if it broke backward compatibility, even 4.X).

Daniele - Nov 03 2002
(I had asked not to judge the graphics, as I didn't want to spend a day on it; it is there just to give the idea of what I'm talking about).

Of course kicker needs more functionality, but this is not related with this post, which is about look and customization.

Anyhow, it is agreed that kicker needs lot of work to get better, maybe a complete rewrite.

Moreover, I think a theme is something that changes look and behaviour, while a skin just affects look; anyhow, neither the first or the latter can add/remove functionalities (they can add/remove a button from an interface, but not the functional code that is triggered when that button is clicked).

Daniele - Nov 02 2002
in $HOME/.kde/share/config/kickerrc add the following line to the [General] section:

FadeOutAppletHandles=true

Daniele - Nov 01 2002
Keeping it easy is just what themes are for.
You don't have (if you don't want to) to hack dozens of controls to have kicker looking the way you like it, but you just download a theme that meets your taste and install it.

The style would be great if I could apply my own colorscheme, which is impossible due to the fact that you hardcoded the colors in the style.
Otherwise it would be a good style - Oct 31 2002

Vim has a history, and is part of the history of editing and programming. I think it is good to have an icon that recalls this background of experience, rather than a (maybe) nicer but more detached one.

Actually the Kmenu is far from being simple and intuitive.
It has too many higher level entries that mess up your mind, and finding apps is quite complicated.
I don't know if the idea you are proposing leads to a complete and efficient solution (I mean, anything can be accessed, and it can be done easily), but this is a step in the right direction.
And now submit this to the K-wishlist :)

Kormac is right, the .desktop file has to be placed in
/usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers
rather than in
/usr/share/applnk-mdk/.hidden/ScreenSavers

The .prm packager should fix the issue.

Thanks for the great kss!

Daniele - Oct 08 2002
the rpm has the keuphoria.desktop file.
Look at this:

[root@pc root]# rpm -q --list -p 3379-keuphoria-0.1.1-mdk.i586.rpm
/usr/bin/keuphoria
/usr/share/applnk-mdk/.hidden/ScreenSavers/keuphoria.desktop

Still, although files seem to be placed in the right location according to MDK9.0 filesystem layout, kcontrol wouldn't show keuphoria in the screensavers list.

Daniele - Oct 07 2002
I can have it running by hand, but kcontrol wouldn't display it.
Any idea?
Anyhow, it's gorgeous

... around the widgets.
I do not dislike the idea, though I would tune them to make them thicker: the way they are now widgets look "dirt" rather than "shady".
Anyway, pretty good style overall, both the simple and the more elaborated version.
Good job
