I would suggest the best way to improve development on this program is to add PackageKit support:

That'll give you YUM (Fedora), Zypper (openSUSE), URPMI (Mageia), APT (Debian/Ubuntu) and likely others. - Jun 06 2014

I'm willing to bet this is already handled, but I'm going to suggest it in case it isn't; KDE3 and KDE4 use different methods for storing the colors of the theme in kdeglobals. If it hasn't been adjusted already, would it be possible to get QtCurve to use the KDE4 colors for KDE3 programs, rather than looking in the KDE3 default place for colors that in all likelihood won't be set? - Oct 22 2008
I remember a few months ago that someone reported the text in Gtk2 menus staying black, even with QtCurve selected as the main theme and non-black menus being used in KDE. I recall then it being mentioned that the cause was the use of the gtk-qt-theme.

However, I notice that generally the text will be black for the first few seconds in certain Gtk2 programs (Firefox is a major example), and I can tell you right now it's not the gtk-qt-theme. I don't have it installed. I set the Gtk theme directly through the Gnome Control Center from KDE and started gnome-settings-daemon to make sure the Gtk programs pick up the styling properly. - Aug 17 2007
I submitted a source RPM for QtCurve for inclusion in Fedora a while ago, but it hasn't been approved. - Aug 17 2007

No problem. This is one of the most useful - and in my case, most used - extensions around. - Jul 30 2008
I figured I'd mention I have this sucker working with KDE4 as well; all you have to do is...

1) Put the files audioconvert.desktop and audiofrommovie.desktop into $KDEROOT/services/ServiceMenus/ (example: on Fedora, that's /usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/).

2) Edit both of them to add Type=Service to the [Desktop Entry] menu.

3) Add KonqPopupMenu/Plugin to the list of ServiceTypes; this tells Konqueror & Dolphin that this is an Action Menu in the new version.

That's it. You don't even have to patch the scripts, since they'll use the KDE4 kdialog instead of the KDE3 one, no problem. These adjustments will get the menus showing up in the right-click menus like they do in KDE3. - Jul 29 2008

Your install doesn't properly install the toolbar instruction files, so I ended up with a browser with no toolbars at all (and an error saying the rc file was missing).

Well, you can use GetHotNewStuff to get it (there should be a Download button next to the option to change the theme in Configure Desktop, from which you simply select the theme you want and click Install), or you can install it yourself (depending on the theme, it may have to be compiled first, which simply requires a ./configure, make, make install run).

If it just says "Copy to $KDE4ROOT/share/apps/desktopthemes/" (and I've seen such before), know that generlaly, $KDE4ROOT is /usr (if there is an existing /usr/share/apps directory, that's probably it; just create a directory desktopthemes and put the theme in it). - Jul 16 2008

Seriously. I have yet to locate an app I make more use of, except for Konqueror directly. In fact, I wouldn't have considered moving to KDE4 without KRename. I found myself wishing there was an equivalent app for performing the same sort of batch naming, only for words in text files...

Here. Since I had a couple of hours to kill and meant to learn about this at some point, here's the plugin converted to use the GNU Autotools. So now you can do ./configure, make, make install and it'll move the plugin to the right directory.

I tested it both the regular way (./configure, make, make install) and with the RPM builder (which technically does the same thing, but is somewhat more picky about certain things), so it should be good. - Aug 24 2007
The problem is the install path is hardcoded in the Makefile. I know because I had to write a HUGE patch to get it to build for RPM (I'm the package maintainer for this in Fedora).

Oh, if the original programmer is interested, I can send the patch I wrote. It's not RPM-specific, so it should work for DEB and TGZ based distros as well. - Aug 09 2007

Where is the source code? The packages labelled "source" actually contain the compiled binaries... - Jul 21 2007
I've used Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora and openSUSE. In terms of file location, Fedora and openSUSE are identical, with one exception:

openSUSE puts regular programs in /usr, KDE programs in /opt/kde3 and GNOME programs in /opt/gnome. There are other programs that get put under /opt, but for the most part, those are the ones that count.

Fedora Core distros place everything under /usr and don't put anything in /opt at all. So the only difference between an openSUSE package and a Fedora package is that openSUSE needs the KDE stuff in /opt/kde3, and Fedora needs the KDE stuff in /usr. You're right; since emuexec is supposed to be generic, it should be in /usr in both. - Dec 26 2006
This has probably been mentioned: for SUSE and Mandriva, prefix=/opt/kde3 is fine; Fedora Core users need prefix=/usr... - Dec 12 2006
I figured I'd mention that the KMenu doesn't show up properly in Mandriva and equivalents, due to Menudrake's hijacking of the KMenu setup. I'd suggest a fix, but I don't use Mandriva (I use Fedora Core), and I dunno exactly how Menudrake works. - Oct 01 2006

There are always bad quality things made, regardless of OS or tools. Being formerly from the RM2K community, I can certainly attest to that. OTOH, there are a lot of GOOD quality things made with RM2K/Gamemaker/Clickteam/etc. , and so the question is, do you think we should prevent good quality creations to shield us from bad quality creations? - Jul 14 2007
As awesome as Qt4/KDE4's dock sections are, I'm thinking that's probably not the best place to put database-based features...

I dunno the exact story behind it, but I have serious doubts that the Fedora 7 RPM contains the original source as offered, because when I tried to package the source for Fedora 7, I started getting compiler errors. Parts that sysinfo:/ rely on (like hwinfo) are not in Fedora.

Actually, that's why I started to hack on it to use HAL, as I mentioned the last time I posted here. I'll give creating the package a try again, though, just in case ;) - Jun 13 2007

I really like this theme (it really fits a Fedora-based desktop well). Just a few suggestions:

1) This being a Fedora theme, I think it might be a good idea to produce a version that uses the Bluecurve icons instead of the Crystal icons. Remember, Bluecurve is the default icon theme in Fedora.

2) Maybe a DNA-based one, for FC6? - Feb 23 2007
