Hey, thanks for your comments. As some of you may hav noted, there wasn't any new release of KBookmarkNG. For now I dropped the idea of replacing KDE's bookmark system with KBookmarkNG. First I'm going to look at what e.g. Tenor has to offer... I'm also considering doing some improvements to KBookmark again instead of putting too much energy into creating something new. - May 31 2005
Sorry, KBookmarkNG depends on KDE 3.3 because it uses the KListViewSearchLine widget which has been introduced with this version. - Oct 01 2004

Hm... sorry, I can't reproduce the problem. "Advanced -> No border" seems to work fine for me with KDE 3.3. - Jul 21 2004
You should add "--prefix=`kde-config --prefix`" to the ./configure command. Otherwise it can happen that the files get installed into /usr/local/kde/* where the theme selector doesn't look for themes by default. - May 31 2004
Which distribution are you using?
Maybe you need to install qt-dev and kde-dev packages first. - Feb 28 2004
Hum hum, I hate it. :)
Thanks, will be fixed in the next version. - Feb 08 2004
[- a GUI for Alloy's ~/.qt/alloystylerc options accessible from the Style kcm's Configure button?

- making more colours configurable than just primaryColor and selectionColor?

- using KWin's global border size setting instead of a windeco-specific one?]
Yes, I plan to do these things. However, don't ask me when. - Feb 08 2004

Yes, works fine. - Jul 21 2004
The widget style is Plastik, but I'm not sure about the color sheme. I think it's the old sheme included in Plastik 0.3.9. The font is Bitstream Vera Sans, the ebuild is called "ttf-bitstream-vera".
I don't remember the name of the wallpaper, I found it on this site. - Jun 10 2004
Moc is the Qt meta object compiler. It should come with your Qt installation... - Mar 25 2004
Use the right --prefix (for example /usr) when you execute ./configure as it is (AFAIR) stated in the INSTALL doc. - Mar 05 2004
I don't know why kniftyclient.moc hasn't been created automatically for you, but as a work-around you can create it by hand with "moc kniftyclient.h -o kniftyclient.moc" in the source folder. - Feb 14 2004
Sounds like a bug in KWin. Actually, I've seen this a few weeks ago too but now it's gone. If the problem still remains reproducable with current CVS, please fill a bug report. - Jan 09 2004
I've heard that XFree ships with an old version of libz. But there is most likely a newer version of libz shipped with your distribution, this may confuse ./configure...
What's the output of

find /usr/X11R6/ -iname 'libz*' - Dec 24 2003
Very strange.
But I don't think there is a conflict between plastik and kdenetwork, because I and many others are running them together without problems. That's the first time I hear of such a problem with plastik, sorry. - Dec 07 2003
I have no idea what's wrong with your installation. Files "plastik.la" and "plastik.so" anywhere? Make sure they are located in /usr/lib/kde3/plugins/styles/ resp. $KDEDIR/lib/kde3/plugins/styles/ - NOT /usr/local/* . - Dec 05 2003
There is no KNifty (widget) style, it's only a window decoration.
The widget style you can see on the screenshot is Plastik; get it from http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7559 or from KDE 3.2 kdeartwork. - Dec 04 2003
The wallpaper is called "kTrend" you can get it from http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=8102#c36329 - Nov 10 2003

See if there are any "{kde|qt}-dev" packages available for your distribution and install them. - Jun 10 2004
Nope, this is not possible with the current decoration API. There is a kwin bug report for this, too... - Mar 31 2004
There's a thread called "Doc sources?" on this page (Plastik comments). Maybe that helps... - Feb 29 2004
This Plastik is KDE 3.1 only - a Plastik for KDE 3.2 is included into the kdeartwork package. - Feb 29 2004
The decoration was updated due to a minor KWin API change two days ago, which means that plastik from current CVS doesn't work together with kwin from kde 3.2 beta 2. You should check out a prior version of plastik ("-D last week" or so). - Dec 17 2003
Are we talking about the same toolbars? As far as I can see, the toolbars in Plastik are already quite (too?) flat. - Nov 23 2003
A few days ago, I got a mail from David M Sirkin which suggested that he is going to work on a Plastik GTK style which will be based on Mandrake's Galaxy. - Nov 16 2003
No, they are not. The scroll bar thumbs by default have dots instead of the lines... despite that the previews should match 0.3.9. - Nov 03 2003
[Is there some way to have an animated progress bar in Plastick, like in Keramik and OS X?]
Yeah, at least in KDE 3.2. Or in the next release on KDE-Look if there will be any... ;)

[BTW: Dd the above project make it into Keramik CVS, and if it didn't do you know why not?]
Yes, it did. - Oct 19 2003
Do you have X/KDE/Qt development packages installed on your system? - Oct 17 2003
My only guess is that you forgot to use "--prefix=/usr" while "./configure'ing".
If this doesn't help, I don't know what the problem is, sorry. - Oct 15 2003
You must be doing something wrong. The .themerc is located at
plastik-0.3.8/style/plastik.themerc - Oct 11 2003
[I have 1 wish for it:

make the height of the titlebar
even a little smaller, 1 or 2 pixels.
The height of the titlebar should equal the height of the menubar, unless titlebar font is bigger.
In that case the titlebar should adapt it's height to the fontsize]
I think this is a bit problematic because the menubar height depends on the menu font and on the style you use, so it isn't possible to acquire it without some dark hacks... :o

[And a problem (bug) I see:
the buttons are not really centered
when you are in fullscreen mode with
"Shrink borders for maximized windows"]
This no bug, it's a feature. ;) Well, it looks a bit strange but it's easier to target the buttons, just throw the mouse to the upper right corner for the close button etc. - Oct 02 2003
If someone volunteers for creating a Gtk-Plastik, I would appreciate it
but I won't do this myself because I don't know much about Gtk style
development and are quite busy with another project at the moment,
sorry. - Oct 02 2003
The handles can be hidden by checking "KControl/Appearance&Themes/Panels/Advanced Options/Fade out applet handles" (or similar). - Sep 27 2003
E.g. the plain panel labelled "groupBox" consists of the '1 pixel countour'. Sunken and raised frames are the same, just with lines which should indicate shading or highlighting drawn inside... - Sep 25 2003
Thanks for your comment.
I see your point and I noticed, too, that it's a bit hard to recognize if the frames are raised or sunken.
But I have no idea of how to combine more common frames with the overall design of the rest. My goal of the style was to give all widgets and so the frames a typical look, like the 1 pixel contour, and not _primarily_ to maintain a correct 3d look/lightening etc. and would like to somehow keep it this way... - Sep 24 2003
Well, I'm running qt 3.2 myself and it works fine. Maybe there's something wrong with your ~/.qt/qt_plugins_3.2rc. However, I don't know how to fix it, maybe you have luck with kcontrol switching from Plastik to another style and back so the file gets updated... - Sep 24 2003
I cannot reproduce this. For me, the arrows seem to fade out correctly. - Sep 24 2003

Thank you.

Packages are always nice. :) I don't need a deb myself, but if you would like to create one I would love to link/publish it on the site. - May 13 2004
Yes, I'm going to do so for the next version. When I initially wrote the rss plugin, I only knew about librss, but I'm very interested in the DCOP service.
I already had a look at your RSS sidebar and the Kontact plugin yesterday. My knowledge about DCOP is rather limited and a few things were confusing for me, so I decided to drop it for 0.3. But I will give it another try soon. ;) - Apr 04 2004
It's included in librss from kdenetwork. - Jan 26 2004
Thanks! I will mention it on the web site. - Jan 25 2004
Thanks for your suggestions, very useful!
So this are my goals for eventwatcher 0.2:
- Make the pop-up usable: less intrusive, include only the title and group items with the same title together (ala "kde-apps updated (4)").
- Make the main window more functional: store a history of events and highlight new, unread events. This would also solve the session management problem.
- Split the core up and create a sidebar plugin as an alternative to the (pop-up)+systray+main window solution, not sure about the user interface yet. - Jan 25 2004

Personally, I often like the "pixelize effect", like the bar in the center of this image, in some your wallpapers.
In this wallpaper, I don't like the colors used for the background gradient... it doesn't look "professional" to me, don't know why. - Dec 18 2003

I like the scenery but the image has too much artefacts on edges, seems like the jpg quality is way too low.

Btw.: what did you change since your last upload? I've seen this wallpaper min. 2 times updated without a changelog. - Dec 07 2003

Nice! It's very clean, has great colours, and I like the inconspicuous KDE label.
