Plasma 4 Widgets

Description:

A simple plasmoid that lets you put a web page on your desktop. It is very useful with the iphone version of many web sites.

For example if you use facebook often, instead of visiting it in a web browser, just set the Web Snippet's url to the iphone version of facebook and leave it on your desktop. Now a quick summary is always open. You can see updates to the news feed and respond to messages without ever visiting facebook in your browser.

This is useful for facebook, Gmail, and many other sites.

To use this plasmoid, install it, and add it to your desktop or dashboard. Then click the configure button (looks like a wrench) and enter the URL of the site you want to be displayed (one example is "http://iphone.facebook.com"). That's all! If you want to reload you can right click on the page.

If this plasmoid can make use of user agent just like dolphin browser on android or opera for desktop, there will be no need for manually finding the mobile version because the web server automatically changes the version of web for you based on your user agent.

I'm glad you guys are using/liking this widget! I hope it continues to be useful, and all of the comments on this thread are great ideas which would be great to implement.

Unfortunately I honestly don't have time to continue developing this widget at the moment. If anyone wants to pick up where I left off: go for it! That's what open source is all about.

Best of luck!

Good work, I find very useful to check my e-mail.
It would be still more interesting if you could open a link in a full browser window when needed (mabye by middle clicking).

Hi

I'm using this to display a single image, which is a weather forecast for my area, from http://www.yr.no ... the next 48 hours meteogram, which I think is the coolest weather app for your desktop.

I would like the plasmoid to have an auto-refresh option, so that the image can get updated every hour or three.

Is this possible?

thanks :-)

Is there a way to make the background solid? I can't see my emails with my backdrop being behind it. I don't mind editing a file or something if I could have a pointer.

Oh, I like the widget. Its nice. Thank you for your efforts.

Hi,

I love this plasmoid but I have some trouble at startup: each time I start my computer I have to manually reenter the adress of the page I want to see otherwise it won't load anything.
Also, the size is changed each time I start up to the default size.
I'm using kubuntu 9.10. I wonder if someone has some answers to these problems...
Thanks in advance for any help,

Marie

Hi,

Just to say that I have the same problem on Kubuntu 9.10. Settings and geometry were reset on last reboot.

IF you can change the website from a list with just one clic, would be perfect

Works fine in 4.3. If it already works as a small web browser (ability to click on links etc.) why not ask a small URL bar which is only displayed on hover? Would be easier than setting it in Settings.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that because, primarily, I think it will not be easy, but also because there is nothing to hover over to make it appear. If I make it the top of the web page, then you lose navigation on the top of the web page.

Also, this is meant primarily to be a specific web page, so the url should only need to be set rarely. There is already a web browser plasmoid shipped with kde 4.3 that has a url bar, navigation buttons, and bookmarks.

Nice Plasmoid. It's compatible with kde 4.3?
