Description:

Play video as your wallpaper!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLVSaqvshRc (ty nowardev)

Thanks Lukas Krejza, but Gryffus for SUSE packages :) Thanks dglent for the Mandriva rpm!

It installs TWO files which can be easily deleted by:
# rm /usr/lib/kde4/wallpapervideo.so
# rm /usr/share/kde4/services/video.desktop

KDE4 is usually installed to /usr/, if not then "kde4-config --prefix" will tell u where instead.

Messy unstyled code BUT its optimised and FAST ;) To KDE devs: It just looks messy but the code is fine- I can clean it up to fit KDE guidelines if needed.

We live in 2009. Computers can easily handle this. We should be prettifying our desktops a lot more.

If a kind person makes me packages I'll upload ;) thx

AVI
MKV
OGG
MPG
MPEG
OGV
MP4
OGM
ASF
FLV
WMV

Note: Small filesize videos => More compressed => Take longer to decode => Eat the most CPU

Best is raw AVI

where I can find for opensuse 11?

Report

gryffus

Since it requires at least KDE 4.2 i can add repository for openSUSE 11 + KDE4 Factory if you wish. It cannot be compiled for stock KDE from openSUSE 11 or openSUSE 11.1

Work but all kinds of video running too fast
someone knows why?

Report

yeah for some reason, some formats like flv give wrong frame info. im not sure how ur supposed to calc the proper frame data for them with ffmpeg but id like to know if someone with libav* knowledge knows.

i think its uses DTS and not PTS values like most videos.

Nonetheless, if u try other video formats it will work.

i just realised its a bug with small resolution/size videos. i think i can maybe fix this.

yep formats that require the least compression (and use the most diskspace) run the fastest

best = raw avi

How much CPU power does this eat on your systems?
On my Core2Duo CPU T7700 @ 2.40GHz, 4GB RAM and GeForce 8600M GT it takes 45 to 75 ( !! ) % of CPU on videos from dreamscene.org...
Should i convert it to some better supported format?

Report

yes, as a rule of thumb, the smaller the filesize and the more decoding the plugin has to do, the more cpu it eats up.

raw avi = best
