Description:

A Gtk theme that makes more sense to me. I mostly hacked it together for my own use, but decided to release it. Maybe someone will find it enjoyable as well :P.

It is low contrast and 100% gloss free. It has reduced padding and small icons to ease the strain on your screen estate.

Requirements:
- Gnome 2.30 with the new nautilus. It works fine with older versions of nautilus but doesn't look as nice
- the latest murrine engine (i.e. from git. ships with Ubuntu Lucid Lynx now)
- the Equinox theme engine. It is only used for textboxes, so the theme will look fine without, but you will receive a warning

Credits:
- the theme is based (but heavily modified) on Human-Lucid: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Human-Lucid?content=119546
- inspiration and code snippets from the great elementary gtk theme: http://danrabbit.deviantart.com/art/elementary-gtk-theme-83104033

Feel free to modify and share!

The fonts used in the screen shots are:

* standard font: Bitstream Vera Sans
* window title: http://www.dafont.com/champagne-limousines.font
* fixed width: Bitstream Vera Sans Mono

Are the Bitstream Vera Sans fonts installed by default in ubuntu lucid?

Alright, Sense is now working. :D
But in order to get the same look (icons etc.), i need to know the names of your icons and window border. Because i get this stupid "e" to the left of "applications", if i choose "elementary" as my iconset and the maximizie/minimize/close buttons of my windows are at the right top of the frame and on your pictures they are on the left top.

Btw: great job! :)

Great :).

The icon set I'm using is called Ubuntu Mono Dark, which is one of the default icon sets for the new Ubuntu (Lucid Lynx). Check this forum entry on how to change the window buttons to the left side: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=322739

Nice theme... Any quick way of getting rid of the black panel? (I'd really like it to be gray, say like the windows border, but unchecking "use system theme" in the panel properties makes it look really ba).

ok, if I have some time I will make a grey version as well

Well...i'm not very familiar with themes etc. but i've installed the latest gnome version (2.30), the latest murrine engine and the equinox engine (compiled it on my own). after that i copied the extracted folder "Sense/../gtkrc" to "~/.themes/" and "usr/share/themes".
But when i open my themes menu there is no "Sense" theme. When i select for example the "Sonar" theme and click on adjust, there's the option to choose "Sense", but by activating this option the look and feel gets very ugly and it doesn't even look close to the screenshot..

ok so you really need the newest murrine engine from git. You can download it here http://www.cimitan.com/murrine/engine and compile yourself.
If you are using ubuntu you can also get it from this ppa https://launchpad.net/~elementaryart/+archive/elementarydesktop

btw, it is normal that it doesn't show up under themes as it is not a full theme suite - it is just a gtk theme.

Hard to say what is going wrong :S. What you could do is: enable the theme, go to the terminal and run another terminal by typing 'gnome-terminal'. You will most likely see some error messages - if you post them here, I can maybe help you further.

How important is the Gnome Version? I have 2.26, the latest Murrine and equinox engine, but it still breaks, leaving me with an ugly and blocky fall back theme.

The gnome version shouldn't be too important - it is mostly about the new nautilus interface. Since the theme doesn't work at all for you, my best guess is that you have the wrong version of murrine. The current version is 0.90.3

Unfortunately, that is the version (0.90.3) that I'm using. Maybe I just need to log out or restart before the changes take effect?

Well, though still using gnome 2.28, it looks perfect. I’m using nautilus-elementary, though.

Success!
