Description:

FuriusRss Karamba is a total re-write of Furius Karamba RSSNews (still available). This new version is extremely easy to customise, allowing users to easily and rapidly create new and personalised themes to suit their desktop.

FuriusRss supports an unlimited number of RSS feeds which can be easily set be editing the config.py file in your favourite browser.

Features:

Supports and unlimited number of feeds.
Supports RSS 0.9x, RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0, CDF, Atom 0.3 and Atom 1.0 feeds.
Supports multi-national character encodings.
Easily configurable through a separate config file (config.py)
Multiple themes available.
Customisable through a separate config file (config.py).

How to Use and Configure:

Download a FuriusRss in the theme of your choice (see screenshots for preview).
Open config.py in your favourite text editor.
Enter the urls of any feeds as a comma separated list within the ‘feeds = []’ section.
Enter the time that you wish each feed to display for in the ‘delay_seconds’ section.
Choose you preferred browser in the ‘browser’ section.
A Tutorial is available for creating your own themes.

Actually, German doesn't appear to be a problem. I have tried other German sites and they seem okay. I think the problem with the heise site is that it is an atom feed not an rss feed.

Okay, first of all, I'm afraid to say the news parser doesn't appear to like the German language 8(.
I have had digg and the KDE sites working fine. If you are having problems try reverting back to the default feeds and change one at a time. You must also remember that python is very sensitive to indentation in the code, and a space character in the wrong place can kill an application.
I'll look into the German language issue, but I can't promise anything. Sorry.

Good work;
I like it. Because i have configured it easily. But i add some rss addresses. Their encodings are different. How can i change it to utf8.

I have changed the encoding to utf8 on all the files, though I don't know if this will fix your problem.

Sorry. I cannot see some Turkish rss correctly. If you try this rss,you may understood the problem.

In Turkish there is '?' but it is shown different. I want to see 's'for it.
I try to edit rssparser.py file for some characters but it does not work.

Where is the file rssNews.py? I've installed python-xml before installing the widget, but it's the same matter.
I want to change the rss feeds and I could not find the file? Where is the problem?

After you have downloaded the archive and extracted it, there should be two folders (rssNews and rssNews_shiney). In these folders you should be able to find the rssNews.py file

Hi

I'm not sure if it's possible in SuperKaramba but if it is then a scrollbar (on the right hand side) would be good for feeds with more than 7 items. We could then scroll up and down to see more than 7 feeds in the window.

Just a thought. Great app :)

just scrolling with the mousewheel (without a visible scrollbar) would be better in my opinion :D

Great program. I can't wait until you add functionality to configure the feeds.

Just a quick note. On this latest release, in the bbcNew.py file you need to add a space in the following line:
browser = "kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing"
after the webbrowsing bit else it doesn't bring up konqueror when you select a news item. like so:
browser = "kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing "

Hi, I was running it on SUSE 10.0 without any problems, however, when I installed opensuse 10.2, it does not show any feeds. Same thing with kubuntu (python-xml is installed). What else is needed?

Hi, I am new to Linux and KDE. However, I installed superkaramba in my desktop PC and ran this theme with no problems at all (in SUSE 10.0, SK 0.39). Now in my laptop PC I installed Kubuntu and all my SuperKaramba themes work fine but this one. THe box opens normally but I dont see any feeds. I really like the BBC Rss headlines on my desktop and would like to have them in my laptop screen. Any ideas? I am on the same network, just different Linux distro.

This has hopefully been sorted now. It was a problem with some version of Python defaulting the character encoding to ASCII. But the RSSParser.py file contained other encoding.

I have the same problem, no feed at all. Basic Python-2.4.4.2 is installed. Are there some special python additions required?

This is the best looking RSS viewer for superkaramba by some way. Can I suggest a feature? It would be great, if we could use the same window to view multiple feeds. Obviously there are various ways this could be done, but perhaps to keep with your current style, a switch between displayed feeds every couple of minutes or so would do the trick? You have a 'current feed' line at the bottom, so perhaps different (configured) feeds could be selected by clicking here?

Nice, but I have some problem using it with the french google news RSS (http://news.google.com/nwshp?oe=UTF-8&tab=wn&ned=fr&output=rss). I got wired characters instead of 'à', 'é', 'ç', ...
