I feel the KDE should be standard. Hey you need to know the enviroment your takin over RIGHT. As far as the subsitution from origanl post. That would have made it even better.
How about taking that big KDE off - everybody knows it is kde already and this text is not very atractively designed. And make the map biger and somewhat bolder. chown line is IMHO is good. maybe linux:users could be substituted with "a+rwx" - more democracy. :)

the only reason i have this is because of the symbolism...so make a pretty one and same text on it...great thanx!

I don't know if a customized splash screen can be bigger than the standard one...

I agree with the previous comment. On a 1600x1200 display the splash screen looks small. And KDE logo could be removed.
