Your message on the other hand...
In the male-internet world we live in I often get confronted with images that are often very offensive and rude. They DO treat women like objects. As a man it's hard to notice this because you are not personally involved. You just don't notice so you think it's not there.
But what you are saying is that being offended by this means that you must be big, fat and ugly. The only reason why we are offended - in your opinion - is because we think we don't look "as good". So, at that point you just confirmed what she just said. It's just another way of saying "shut up and be beautifull".
I do think the original poster overreacts, but I can understand how she feels. After a while you had enough, and at that point it doesn't take much to explode..
Maybe I've just gotten used to it. And that's a very depressing thought.

Besides look at the upper left of the page. It says Eyecandy for YOUR kde-desktop (everyones).
I am going to load the splash and look at her butt everytime i load KDE and I'll like it allot :)

You know, NO woman is just a walking-butt, but some do a great job of being an ass.
Anyway, Great Job! Keep 'em coming.

This is a slap in the face to the groups of female open source hackers out there who are equally as skilled as any man in the field (check out women.kde.org). Yet, imagery like this is oppressive. It gives the community a "women are sex objects only" attitude. Not very favorable to intelligent girls.
I respect freedom of speech, but this is getting excessive. I have seen well over a dozen uses of this poor image over the past couple weeks. It populates kde-look.org more than most other forms of artwork. It's simply overkill! I don't mind people using sexy imagery on computers, but when it gets to the point of little else but this stuff being forced down our throats... ugh.
Try respecting women rather than seeing them as something other than living sex-toys.

Well... because of little miss mouth, I've chose to just to tell her to do two things:
SHUT UP AND GROW UP!
there is something the one can do to make ones self happier. that is to ignore the things that upset one's self. This means... *oh my*... That maybe you should IGNORE these things that you don't like! (.)
I'm assuming your also the kind that don't like things like: (_!_) and ./. and \n|m
now, that there... that you can yell at me to grow up! but the things I call art, and the things you call art may be two differant things. so.... let us enjoy the things WE call art.

Sexuality--and that's what we're talking about here--does not have to be "dirty". It does not have to be politically disempowering. It does not have to be objectifying. It does not belittle a person to present another person of the same gender in a sexual way.
The madonna/whore paradigm is well accepted as an affront to women. Your comment perpetuates that view. I do not believe you're doing a service to the "groups of female open source hackers" who have apparently appointed you their spokesperson.
Yes, you are the one perpetuating it. You say "It gives the community a "women are sex objects only" attitude". No, it doesn't. It presents ONE woman in a very sexually suggestive pose. Who is to say that her sexuality precludes her from being a serious hacker?
Would you have us believe that for a woman to be sexual, she must first give up all other identity?
When you point one finger at somebody, you've got 3 pointing...

And how great is this? It is a image (stolen?) with a couple of icons placed below it. The latest icon (The K) don't even have the same look as the rest of them. I mean come on. I don't claim to be a great artist, but I don't think that cutting & pasting 5 or 6 images counts as art.
Please reply and tell me you do.

Never meant for it to be "okay" or "great" or "god's give to mankind". I meant it to be "FUN!" I meant it to be "Something slightly different." I meant it to be "Something for the people that watch and enjoy Anime."

Um, err, go though 90% of the stuff on this site.. it is almost ALL copy and paste stuff. Icons do not have to have all the same look. I do know who though up that idea.. but if images follow a same theme they go together. they do not all need to be the same to go together well.
As for what is or isn't art.. art is in the eye of you OWN opinion.

Respect must be earned and is an individual thing and what one woman (real, not anime) does has no bearing on you. Acting self centered and neurotic DOES have a bearing on you though.

..i really don't get what's pissing you off. so what if someone wants a pic of a slutty little pseudo-anime girl as a splash? does it make all wonem look like slutty anime?
forgive me for saying this, but yours IS a rather stupid post.
If you want, go ahead and make a splash of a naked man and post it here for all women to download, if it makes you happy...
my point is, just because someone made a splash of a woman showing her butt it doesn't mean the maker thinks all women are walking butts.
and if a lot of ppl like it and download it, then i'm sorry but that's life. the internet is 70% about sex, like it or not.
oh and for the record, i do not like 'sexy' themes and i don't use this splash.

I have had many emails from women that really like the image and asked if I have others.
I counted 5 different variants. Where are the others? (Mind you I counted all the wallpapers as 1) I may not like math, but at least I CAN count.
As for the last 2 points.. well, can't really argue with your own personal opinion. But I am also guessing that you have never been past the american view of Anime. It is NOT just a child's level media.

But this image is just gratuitous and does nothing to positively promote KDE. In light of this, it's being claimed as a mascot of the KDE project (Konqi's much better IMHO). I think it is generally disrespectful, but again that's just my opinion.
And the mention of seeing it a dozen times on the front page stands in light of the many updates to this.
