Nice to see my home country programmers developing for KDE. Keep up the good work!

I posted this on the help page but I fear people may not be used to using that feature yet and I'd really like to try this application.

I've been unable to get this prog to coompile using the methods I'm familiar with. I can see that it should be really simple but I'm not getting anywhere and would appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

no configure, makefile or .pro file
maybe install / build instructions in the source package would be a good idea.

I think you’re better off developing on Qt4 (and KDE4) :)

kdelibs4-dev is Debian/Ubuntu’s idea of KDE3 libs — in any case, both Qt3 and KDE 3 are ancient and best be avoided.

Actually, a HUGE LOT of people are still using KDE3, which is much more stable and "complete" than v4.
Therefore coding for KDE3 still makes a lot of sense.

I could say the same here as I said under moon115 :)

I have to agree with Sciamano72.

Although everyone wants kde4 to succeed there is still work that needs to be done before many users workflow will not be impeded by the new paradigm.

The headlong rush by distros forcing users to switch before they are ready can only lead to bad feelings and disappointment.

I suspect that a great number of users will not be ready to move to kde4 before 2010, (Large corporate and educational installations such as brazils rollout of kde 3.5.5 in the schools) won't want to shift desktops until a clear advantage is shown.

The program being in Qt4 doesn’t necessitate the user needing to drop the KDE3 desktop whatsoever. It’s just that Qt4 (even if you’d want to avoid using KDE 4 technology) is really much more advanced than Qt3, and is present on most computers/distros anyway even if KDE4 isn’t (or isn’t wanted).

Don’t think I’m a huge KDE4 fan, I was just surprised at the choice of toolkit now — in 2009, using Qt3 is not quite future-proof. Sure, KDE3’s technologies add a lot to it and create a very usable environment (one that I do like).

I didn’t like distros rushing it, and in fact switched distros just to be able to keep a working KDE3, because KDE4 < 4.2 were horrible. KDE 4.3 is quite decent though, with much fewer rough edges than its three predecessors.

Hey Ralesk,

I'm sorry, I misunderstood your point, I have to agree w/ pretty much everything you said.

It really does make sense to be using the qt4 technologies particularly for the future of the project.

see ya
