I love it!
Q: Why my Latte is only v0.7.4 and there are no updates? I'm using official Kubuntu repos. Will it be updated with Kubuntu 19.04 or KDE Plasma 5.13?

v0.8.x is a lot better than v0.7.x family

I suppose that v0.7.x is by default officially distributed from ubuntu.

You can ask the kubuntu devs or kubuntu community how to be always up to date with plasma and Latte.
Latte current stable branch is v0.8.x that was first introduced at Summer 2018.
Latte v0.7.x was introduced back at Summer 2017

- Definitely needs more work. Placing more than one plasmoid into a dock is very annoying. You have to re-open configuration of the dock every time you want to do it. Another pain in the neck is that it does not respect already inserted panels and icon grid. Therefore, placing it near icons or panels produces mess in your desktop.

Feel free to contribute then, source code can be found at: https://phabricator.kde.org/source/latte-dock/

> You have to re-open configuration of the dock every time you want to do it.

no you dont, it was designed in a way that this is not needed. Drag n' drop any plasmoid you want from the widgets explorer onto the dock.

> Another pain in the neck is that it does not respect already inserted panels and icon grid

Of course it does if these panels are also Latte panels. That is why in a Unity layout the left latte panel and the top latte panel are adjusting their position automatically by their own. Concerning plasma to identify external panels and docks you can blame plasma for this for not providing a way for external programs to publish their panels/docks geometries (https://phabricator.kde.org/T10172).

And as a note what you are requesting does not exist in no other DE or dock combination. Plank/Latte/Cairo Dock etc. etc... can not take into account the desktop content independent if that is Plasma,Gnome, XFCE etc. etc.

> no you dont, it was designed in a way that this is not needed. Drag n' drop any plasmoid you want from the widgets explorer onto the dock.

In which version it was redesigned? I'm using the one in Ubuntu 18.04 repo (0.7.4). That may be the cause. Is there an official PPA for it?

> Of course it does if these panels are also Latte panels.

But I find original Plasma panels much easier to configure than Latte Dock (not only because of the issue I've mentioned). That's why I prefer them. Also the icon grid is not a Latte panel so it will never fit into it.

> Concerning plasma to identify external panels and docks you can blame plasma for this for not providing a way for external programs to publish their panels/docks geometries

Okay, I see it is not Latte Dock developers fault. But for me, as a user, it's a missing feature.

> And as a note what you are requesting does not exist in no other DE or dock combination.

That means each of them needs work.

> In which version it was redesigned? I'm using the one in Ubuntu 18.04 repo (0.7.4)

this is a very old version. You must ask your distro packagers or users how to obtain a new one. Latte stable version is v0.8.3 and v0.8 branch has improved so many things compared to v0.7 ... I think @rikmills provides updated packages for Latte dock in Ubuntu but you must use the backport plasma repo... Your distro community members is the best place to ask for this.

you can read more at: http://psifidotos.blogspot.com/2018/07/latte-dock-v08-friendly-smile.html

> That means each of them needs work.

of course but that also means that each and every one of the members of the open source community, users/bug reporters/developers should help is such tasks. Latte is actually developed by one man for the last two years, and that would be me. Better experience needs more people to help... ;)

To add applications drag n' drop them an application launcher or from krunner OR right click the window in the taskmanager and choose Pin

update to v0.8.3 1 month ago

* FIX: support multi-screen plasmoids that use plasmoid.screenGeometry such as plasma pager, plasma taskmanagers etc. Latte did not update the plasmoid.screenGeometry value properly in previous versions
* FIX: do not crash when moving launchers that are being synced between multiple docks/panels
* FIX: make sure that launchers order between synced docks/panels is always the current one after the user has ended its dragging
* FIX: support fillWidth/Height plasmoids better (such as plasma taskmanagers), now such applets can be added for all alignments including Left/Center/Right
* FIX: do not show the warning message "Your layout file is broken" when the statement is not valid. This check validates that the containments and applets ids are unique in a layout file but the way this was implemented in the past it was returning false results in some cases

update to v0.8.2 2 months ago

* FIX: wrong placement of docks during startup for multi-screen environments
* FIX: show explicit docks automatically when their corresponding screen is added in a multi-screen environment
* fix: open files properly when dropping them on launchers
* fix: improve behavior according to Fitt's Law when shrinking panel margins
* fix: dont hide previews when hovering player buttons
* fix: update delete icons to plasma design
* fix: dont break BorderlessMaximized window default value
