Description:

Simple Menu is an intentionally minimal launcher widget for Plasma 5. Powered by the same powerful backend as Plasma 5's bundled launchers, its UI is similar to the fullscreen Application Dashboard, just in a small, floating window. In addition to the application grid and filtering, it supports favorites, search and basic system actions.

NOTE: Simple Menu requires Plasma version 5.9 or higher. Additionally, Simple Menu 1.0.2 requires KDE Frameworks version 5.34 or higher - use 1.0.1 on older versions.

I personally agree with this mockup,https://postimg.org/image/c1jmhnmz5/,
However I love this menu, because it is the kde thing that resembles what the elementary element r is, in fact and from there that in my opinion you should take the cue, even if your idea is to leave the right Different categories, it would be nice if you could let the user choose the layout in plasmoid settings, thank you anyway for your work :)

HI, first of all, thanks for creating this awesome menu. I just wish the time interval to initiate drag and drop was smaller. Otherwise, it is almost perfect.

I agree it's a very nice menu for plasma 5. It would be my preferred but I miss two nice features from the default launchers in plasma:

1. Rapid access to recent/most used files and applications (actually, why recent vs most used, why cannot both be enabled if wanted?)

2. Modifier only shortcuts cannot be used, in addition to ESC, to exit the menu.

Is there any hope that these two features will be added at some point?

Also, I wonder if there is any place where I could make a more proper feature requests (e.g. kde or github).

2. sounds more like a bug than a missing feature, I'll have a look.

Currently there's no issue tracker, sorry.

Meta to open and close works fine for me (Simple Menu 1.0.1, Plasma 5.10). Note there was a fix in this are in 1.0.1.

Did you actually get Simple Menu from the store? That code is not in 1.0 or 1.0.1.

Right. I reset the widget again. But plasma required a reboot. Thank you!

The entire source code is in the Plasmoid package, but you can also use the git repo linkes from this store page - anongit.kde.org/scratch/hein/simplemenu.git

Great menu! I had to do some basic hackery to make it 4 icons wide instead of 6. It's hard-coded now. Maybe it'd better be in widget's options instead.

Thank you.Very good work. A perfect mix of classic and modern. Only one minor problem: IMHO the layout is "illogical", more suited to a button placed in the upper right corner. For a button in the "standard" position a more logical arrangement would be this (IMHO again): https://postimg.org/image/c1jmhnmz5/ ; less mouse movements to reach each component.
In a post below @Fuchs wrote is possible to modify the layout editing the contents/ui/MenuRepresentation.qml file in package. I'm not a programmer and I did not understand how to change it. Can you specify how to modify it? Thank you again and sorry for my terrible english.

The layout is reflecting the idea that most people just launch their favorites most of the time, which are fastest to reach this way. People don't browse categories that often (even search is often done by keyboard).

Ok. I made the mistake of considering my way to use menu as the universal way (tipical ;) )
But I like your menu, too: there's a way to adapt it to my needs? The suggestion of @Fuchs to edit the MenuRepresentation.qml file works? If yes, how modify it?
Thanks

It's open source code, so of course you can modify it :) It's a bit beyond the scope of this forum to teach how though :/

Thank you for the hard work on this menu. It is *almost* perfect; the only feature that's missing or one that I haven't found yet, is arranging favourites by dragging and dropping the icons. I understand your desire not to go overboard but I hope this can go on the maybe pile.

Hmm! This should actually already work. Can you try with long press on a favorite?

There it is! I tried every Ctrl+Alt+Shift and drag but never once thought to do a long press.

Thank you.

You can just use "Get New Widgets" in the "Add Widgets" sidebar to download Simple Menu from the Store! But on the command line you can use the "kpackagetool5" utility.
