Description:

GNOME-OSX 2.0

Made by paulxfce (alias Manjarocinnamonfan, paulubuntu)
New additional theme: Gnome-OSX with No Transparent sidebar (NT)
New update 16/12/2017
New update 12/2/2017
New Update: 11/2/2017
New Update 9/2/2017
UPDATE: completely new version.

This is a gnome-desktop-interpretation of Mac OSX. I've tried to implement the feel of OSX on the gnome-applications.

Initially based on the Arc-theme-files.

I've spend a great deal of time and effort on this theme into fine-tuning it, so I hope you try before you judge !

Main features:

- Nautilus with blurred sidebar.
- Same theming across GTK2 and GTK3. (See screenshots)

Seperate download for Shell-themes:

- Shell theme with white dock and slighty dark top-bar
- Shell theme with dark dock and dark top-bar

This theme is developed on Ubuntu-gnome 16.10 , so I can only vouch for this setup. It is therefore only useable on a gnome-desktop 3.20+
No support for other desktops.

When, as such, theming does not look the way it should be: make sure you have installed the necessary theme-"engines":

- The gnome-themes-standard package,
- The murrine engine. This has different names depending on your distro.
gtk-engine-murrine (Arch Linux)
gtk2-engines-murrine (Debian, Ubuntu, elementary OS)
gtk-murrine-engine (Fedora)
gtk2-engine-murrine (openSUSE)
gtk-engines-murrine (Gentoo)

How to install:

Just copy the extracted file to a '.themes'-folder you make in your home directory. Then use Tweak-tool to select the GTK and shell theme.
LOG OUT AND BACK IN for changes to take effect !

To put the buttons to the left open a terminal:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout "close,minimize,maximize:"

About the screenshots:

- font used is FREESANS.
-First screenshot shows examples of the themed applications.
-Second and third screenshot shows the shell-themes. The dock is 'simple-dock', a gnome shell-extension to permanently show the dash.

Solution for nautilus-menu-disabled-items -theming. New sidebar background
Thanks Gelonek for finding the bug. I appreciate the feedback!

Added a theme-version with no transparent sidebar (NT) 1 month ago

At request: a version with no transparency set for the nautilus sidebar.

Window resize area reduced 1 month ago

'Melk' pointed out to the problem of the large area the resizing cursor takes before the pointer focusses on the other items on the desktop. He is absolutely right. The margin was set to 10px. Which is wrong. I now reduced the margin-size to 3px. I re-uploaded a correct version (an update again...) 2.4.

System-log errors corrected 1 month ago

Autocrosser1 pointed out that the theme created 'log-flooding', which pointed to colors not defined properly. Updated the download-file with a corrected version 2.3

Refining theme 1 month ago

-fixed the round button on sliders not showing a border
-made new check-and radio buttons
-harmonized the size and spacing of check-and radio buttons across GTK2- and GTK- applications
-removed the dotted inner box that showed the focus-button, because it was ugly...
- harmonized the line-color and depth beneath the headerbar or menubar across GTK2 and GTK3
-Blurred background remains even in maximized window-state
-removed the dotted line that appears at the top or bottom when scrolling trough lenghty lists (overshoot and undershoot)
reduced the default button-height to 20px, thereby making the buttons smaller in GTK3

Side-bar 1 month ago

New Side-bar solution: using blurred background, instead of transparent color

Version 2 1 month ago

Major changes in this theme:
- lighter theme, with rounded buttons
- transparent sidebar with bolded text-elements (just like mac-osx-finder)
- elevated and rounded buttons
- exclusion of original unfocused window theming: only title-buttons are greyed out
- overall fine-tuning

This has to be one of the best GTK themes ever, really well done, excellent readability and looks beautiful as well. Any chance for an optional version with non OSX-like buttons? I know this is an OSX inspired theme, but this theme would look great even as non OSX theme with different buttons, its readability and appearance is excellent, in any case thank you for your work, it is a real pleasure to use this theme. Do you have any plans for making a Gnome shell theme? I tried many OSX inspired shell themes yet I didnt like any of them, many get the colors of the panel right, but panel menus tend to be too bright, too chaotic etc. None of them look nearly as good as your GTK theme. I am using Gnome-OSX-Light-Shell, but while it looks good it is not a clone of OSX shell theme, it is darker and transparent, but it looks good, clean lines and everything looks pretty good. I tried various other OSX inspired shell themes and all suffer from panel menus being too bright and/or too chaotic, your GTK theme has colors perfectly done and now it just needs a complementary shell theme.

How did you manage to get Chromium to look like this ? I'm locked with default "minimize, maximize, close" chromium buttons.

More over, do you plan to try to get the bar at the top of the screen (the one with the data, wifi, battery and so on) to be grey and look like the one on MacOS ? It's the one thing I like the most about macOS, this small bar looks better than the one we have.

Thanks for your work.

right-click on the empty space right to the tabs; then choose system titlebar and borders.
The top-bar in OSX is the menubar. Which has nothing to do with the topbar in gnome. I've provided two themes already, but not with a white topbar. There are other shell themes out there that provide what you want...

Yes, I've installed Fedora 25 with updates yesterday and I have the same problem. This is annoying because it is on nautilus 3.22.3; which apparently uses a different menu then in previous versions. The problem occurs when the option (in this case setting a new bookmark) is grayed out, because the file you are seeing is already on the sidebar, so it cannot be bookmarked. So it would have to be a problem with the settings for grayed out buttons. I will look into it.

Thanx, Standard Ubuntu does not do justice to my theme. I prefer to remain to one single gnome-desktop environment

Hey I'm trying to keep up with the updates since i love since i love your theme... Speaking of which, I have a problem to resize windows... It is very laggy and sluggish (especially with firefox) which does not happen with other themes (i checked default theme adwaita - I'm on Fedora 25/Gnome 3.22). Any idea why ?
