Description: Deb package for woody which provides a pathced version of Freetype2(replaces libfreetype6 and libfreetype6-dev), made by David Chester (see http://www.cs.mcgill.ca/~dchest/xfthack/ for more screenshots). This version is used in Mandrake and improves the visualization of anti-aliased fonts in Xfree86. Fonts such as Luxi Sans or Microsoft Sans are displayed better with this patch (for instance, the space betwen letters is the same with this patch; without this patch, these fonts are badly displayed in Debian).
Installation: -Exit X and apt-get remove libfreetype6-dev. -dpkg -i libfreetype6 -OpenOfficeUsers: add the following line to the end of the soffice script in OpenOfficeDir/soffice:
# Freetype font hack export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6
Results: Fantastic anti-aliased fonts. You will note the improvement after several minutes of using this freetype package. The patch is thinked to be at the official freetype distribution in next releases.
