Metacity supports two theme types - GTK+ (gtk.css) and Metacity (metacity-theme-x.xml).

There's something weird going on with the firefox buttons though.
The distance between the outmost (close) buttons and the other two (maximize, minimize) seems off: https://i.imgur.com/z0MEpW0.png
My buttons are on the left side, but this doesn't seem to make problems with other GTK apps like nautilus or evince.
from my settings.ini:
gtk-theme-name=Skeuos-Grey-Dark
gtk-icon-theme-name=WhiteSur-dark
gtk-font-name=Roboto 12
gtk-cursor-theme-name=macOSBigSurcursor
gtk-cursor-theme-size=0
gtk-toolbar-style=GTK_TOOLBAR_BOTH
gtk-toolbar-icon-size=GTK_ICON_SIZE_LARGE_TOOLBAR
gtk-button-images=1
gtk-menu-images=1
gtk-decoration-layout=close,maximize,minimize:menu
Hope that helps.

If it would use regular icons everywhere it would be perfect!
But this is easily fixed by adding "* { -gtk-icon-style: regular; }" to the gtk.css files.
