Description:

This is theme nearly looks like macOS, with script which can set wallpaper for your desktop and simultaneously set same wallpaper on lock screen and login screen with blur effect like on macOS. In attachment you will find file ubuntu.css, where injected some changes, to make your login screen and lock screen looks more like mac OS.

ATTENTION: TESTED AND WORK ONLY ON UBUNTU 17.10 with GDM3 (xorg) and 18.04 LTS (ubuntu). (Any other OS based on Linux didn't tested!!!)

REQUIREMENTS:

1) Plank (https://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/core/bionic/universe/base/plank)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTRUCTION:

VIDEO INSTRUCTION: https://youtu.be/NMuiCFTpy7s

1. First of all you have to unpuck archive and change your ubuntu.css file (/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css). changes in attachments.
# sudo cp /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.bak
# sudo cp ~/Downloads/ "folder with unpacked files' /ubuntu.css /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/
# sudo chmod 777 /usr/share/backgrounds/

2. Second thing is, set nautilus script by copying script it self "SetAsWallpaper" to '/home/click/.local/share/nautilus/scripts/'
then you have to change access for your script by "sudo chmod +x SetAsWallpaper" and enter root password.
Restart your nautilus in terminal by command nautilus -q, or killall nautilus.

3. Now you just choose your image right click mouse button you will see script and "SetAsWallpaper" just click on it, this is it.

4. It`s last step, and you have to do it just once. At the desktop right click on screen select "Change Background" then "Lock Screen" and "Pictures", find there your blurred image and choose it. Just once!

5. For avoiding issue in use, go to path /home/your_name/.cache/wallpaper and remove all files inside !!! (18.04 LTS)

I would propose to modify the script a bit to make it more robust and less error-prone. And I don't like making a system folder user-writable. So Instead I would use pkexec to ask for password to copy the GDM wallpaper.

I tested the script below on Ubuntu 18.04 and it works very well
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#!/bin/bash
# Set As Wallpaper
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri file:///`pwd`/$1
sleep 5
# Make your wallpaper blurry
prefix="'file://"
suffix="'"
theImage=$(gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri)
theImage=${theImage#$prefix}
theImage=${theImage%$suffix}
convert "${theImage}" -blur 0x30 ~/Pictures/gdm_lock.jpg
# Copy wallpaper in system directory for gdm3 lockscreen
pkexec cp -f ~/Pictures/gdm_lock.jpg /usr/share/backgrounds/

# Enjoy!

Yeah your propose make sense, but, i think its not to comfortable for users to enter password each time u want to change wallpaper. About me, i do it really often. About first part with prefix & suffix, yes maybe. But anyway thanks a lot about care my dev.

Does not work for Pop! _Os.
Did everything according to the instructions. The script can change the wallpaper, but that's all. There is no blurred image, and the lock screen itself has not changed.

Hi there
I've done everything in the tutorial to the letter

I just installed 18.04
fully update
now i'm trying to get macOS HS GDM Theme to work
i'vev done everything
- backed up ubuntu.css

- copied the new ubuntu.css
- chmod 777 /usr/share/backgrounds/

then copied SetAsWallpaper script to the right place
- cd ~/.local/share/nautilus/scripts
- sudo chmod +x SetAsWallpaper

then restarted nautilus
- killall nautilus

then cleared ~/.cache/wallpaper

Now I go to the Pictures folder, I right click an Image -> scripts -> SetAsWallpaper
- nothing happens the wallpaper doesn't change
- after 5 seconds 2 new images are generated gdm_lock-0.jpg and gdm_lock-1.jpg they look like original ubuntu wallpaper not like my image and that's it

now if I set the picture as normal wallpaper then right click -> scripts -> SetAsWallpaper
the 2 generated images look blurred version of my image and then I go and select Lock Screen to be one of them
then
- Lock Screen has the blurred image but
- Dialog screen (where I put my password) is still Purple background

'm sorry I should've been more descriptive. I'm running Ubuntu 18.04. So I followed the instructions you have listed and watched the youtube video. Everything seems to work except its not rendering the blurred image that I selected for my background.

Hey the theme is really cool. But I am having a problem:
The dock is showing on the lock screen, if the dock is not hidden in logged-in mode then the dock shows up in lock screen too.
