Description:

PRO-D-XFCE

Made by paulxfce

A clear and easy-on-the-eyes theme that is meant for those who use the XFCE/Gnome-desktop professionally on a daily basis. The focus in this theme is compatibility: GTK-2 applications and GTK-3 applications look virtually the same. Libre-office, Scribus, Evolution, Geary, Planner, GnuCash, LaTeXila, Geany, the Gimp, Inkscape,...

Chrome, firefox, Web and Opera have no issues with this theme.

About the looks, you will notice some Elementary-theme, Arc-theme and Gnome-OSX, in a darker version.

IMPORTANT:

This is a special edition of PRO-Dark, to use with the XFCE-desktop.

This theme uses GTK 3.20+ for the gtk3-build-apps; GTK2-apps and QT-apps look virtually the same.

How to install:

Download the theme,

Just copy the extracted file to a '.themes'-folder you make in your home directory.
Then use Appearance/ Window-manager to select the Style.
LOG OUT AND BACK IN for changes to take full effect !

The EXTRA-file contains the font (Myriad Set Pro Semibold).

I personally set the font at 11pt, adapted DPI-Setting 102 on my fullHD-monitor.

Comments

Please comment if you see things broken, or want differently. I will post fixes as soon as possible.

Updates:

Version 1.1 includes ALL the window-control-buttons of XFCE-titlebar
Version 1.2 is build on top of ubuntu 17.10, with a new whiskermenu and solution for the awkward behaviour of the desktop-icons.
Version 1.3 completed the making of the panel and Whisker-menu. This version is made to work on Xubuntu 17.10.
Version 1.4 Fix for the desktop-icons, re-theming of Thunar in Toolbar-style, re-adjusting GTK3-theme to match GTK2, overall lighter blue-selected-color and grey-ed menu-items all look the same; Further theming of Whisker-menu: Adjusted padding and margins to make it less clunky and added text-shadows to improve the font-rendering.
Version 1.5 correcting parsing-errors.

Hi, its a very good theme, thank you for it !
I suggest these modifications to gtk-3.0/gtk.css, to avoid warnings in terminal:

< background-image:linear-gradient(to right,rgba(100,103,114,1),rgba(100,103,114,1)); }
< }

> background-image:linear-gradient(to right,rgba(100,103,114,1),rgba(100,103,114,1));
> }

Thank you ! Also, is it normal to not have shadows under GTK2 applications menus ?

No, You should have shadowed menu's everywhere. This theme is developed under Xubuntu 17.10. Using the standard XFWM compositor.

You're right, I had to enable shadows under popup windows !

Hi Paul!

Amazing theme, thanks for the work! I have only one issue, namely in the Window Buttons area on the panel, the background is white and the text very light grey, except for the active window, then both are white, which makes the window buttons virtually unreadable. Is there a way to fix this?

I run debian 9 "stretch" with xfce 4.12. I do not have GTK3 installed.

Uh, please disregard my previous comment, after I switched to a different colour theme and back this was resolved, now the proper colours are shown in the taskbar!

Running Xubuntu 17.10 here.
Can't resize Chromium vertically, only horizontally, thanks for looking at this!
(vertical sizing works with other themes)

Update: the culprit is the window decoration, not the GTK theme...
Vertical resizing is broken with all windows, not just Chromium, as far as I can see.

Due to the fact that there are no windowborders assigned to this theme, only top-leftcorner and toprightcorner shows the resizer. So Nothing to hold on to at the button.

I've experimented with fatter borders(left and right) en fatter bottomborders. And they indeed work at resizing, only: it looks so 80's... Other DE's do not have this problem.

So, I'm not going to change anything. use top-right or top-left of the window and look for the resizer, or right-click on the titlebar and choice resize, or use alt +hold right-click and move the mouse to resize. Or use the window-menu button and choose resize.. Enough alternatives available....

Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you very much. Some anomalies which will be super if you can correct them (Xubuntu 17.10). On the task bar, the menu section is black underneath. Only dark grey when you click on it. The menu itself does not seems to be affected by the theme (is it me?). The same thing with the task bar, the speaker/network icons background is black.
Also with Thunar (file manager), on the title bar, the roll-unroll window sign and the upper left down arrow (window menu) has a white background, not grey.
Note ; Great font selection. Match perfectly the theme.

the new version (1.1) should correct the window-control-buttons. Whisker-menu in Xubuntu 17.10 is using version 2.1.5, which uses GTK3 to draw its shape. In MX-17 Whisker is still at 1.7.5 which uses GTK2. Hence the difference.

I'm aware of the whisker-problem (I've tried a live-version of Xubuntu 17.10). But I have not yet got it installed properly. There is unfortunately allot of difference between MX-17 and Xubuntu 17.10.

Do you use the compton file?

Yes window buttons fixed ! Great stuff. Are you going to try to fix Ubuntu whisker ? I'll be fantastic. I think Ubuntu is more popular than MX-17 (nice distro). You will reach a wider audience.
No I am not using compton. One more thing, I don't know if it is related but if a select an icon on the desktop, the text underneath become a blurry black.

You are doing a great job thanks. Damned, I can only click once on the score ...

Awesome, you kept working on it, thanks. I see you got whisker the proper colours control. It look nice like that (metal grey and metal darker grey). I think the programs list background in whisker is the same as the task bar colour (set to default style).

One thing still exist, is that the background on the task bar for the menu button is still black underneath and I can't see "applications" word until I click on it. Then it become the right colours. It should be the same background and text colour as the date which follow your theme. The same with the taskbar background under the sound and network icons (which is probably related). I don't know if you can correct that. Let me know if I can test stuff for you.

It is almost finish. Thanks. After that, I'll spread it around in the proper forums.

Strange, the last version 1.3 should have addressed the issue with the taskbar background and applications-menu-button too. I'm running standard 17.10 and everything is OK here...

Yes your version 1.3 fix it ! Another one down.

Ok now this is a personal taste and you don't have to do it.

1- When I click on a icon on the desktop, the text revert to black and a blue rectangle highlight the text underneath. I would prefer that the text stay white for clarity since the box already highlight the selection. If it loose focus, that's what happen and it's look better then with the black text.

2- If a select an item in Thunar, the background under the text is a darker blue (?) then the blue under the selections on the left grey "places" panel. Can it be the same blue ? The black text will standout better on the lighter blue.

You did a super job. There is not many full Xubuntu 17.10 themes around. It will stand out.

Ok Paul, I transfer the theme to my main computer. Looks good. The only problem is that black text (selection) on dark blue background (like explained previously) make any selected item with text unreadable on my applications. See your picture too. It may be a must after all. White on blue will solve it.

Thanks

I'll see about removing the grey color als selected menu-items and then replaces them with some lighter blue version. This will take some time, as both GTK2 and GTK3 need to be changed.

Version 1.4 should have addressed most of the remaining issues. Unfortunately White-on-blue selection colors do not always work. But the lighter-blue should help...

Hi Paul, I tried your new version. New name ? XFCE-D-PRO.
Anyway, not exactly was I was expecting. The theme has change. Thunar middle bar (path rectangle) is now light blue instead of previous grey. Icons highlight is still black on dark blue. However desktop icon selection is now white on blue, very good !
I have return to 1.3 which I prefer.
Thanks
