Can't imagine how nobody thought of this before. Right now I spend the half of my time doing dmesg's when something seems not to work correctly to be sure the thing was plugged in by the kernel. Nice, simple (kdialog/dmesg I suppose??) and functional. Keep the work :) - Oct 04 2005

Here is the screenie with the weird effect that I commented in another post. http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic.php?u=16075m1TQm&i=656413 Is anyone experiencing anything similar? I use kdelibs-3.5_beta1 and qt-3.3.4-r8. That effect appears only when there is more than 1 tab opened and I change between them. The strange thing is that if I keep right clicking in the tab or pressing the shortcut, on each press the blurring becomes softer and finally after 4 or 5 times it fades away. If I change tab again (does not matter mouse or keys) the blurring comes again. - Oct 02 2005
It would be so nice if the tab shortcuts was also configurable. I've become used to konsole defaults for that. That is shift+cursor, to move to prev/next tab. It is pretty handy because I can activate the shortcut with only the right hand since shift is near the cursors. Using left alt for that is a hassle, because you need both hands (unless you some kind of sobrenatural being lol By the way, I noticed that some blurring occurs in the tabs when changing between them. Did anyone noticed this or is there something wrong with my setup? If it is not a known problem I will provide a screenshot. - Regards and thanks again ;) - Oct 02 2005
Can't remember if someone posted an ebuild before. So here is a link to the forum where I posted it. http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-269143-start-75.html I give the link because for some strange reason konqueror messes up my text layout in kde-look.org, and carriage returns are not displayed, so I cant post the ebuild here. Sorry for the inconvenience. - Regards, and keep up the good work. Im about to say bye bye to konsole ;) - Oct 02 2005
Dude, this is tEh wonderfull kuake! Keep yakuake alive. :) Just a notice for gentoozers: if you have an ebuild for 2.11 delete it or just emerge =yakuake-2.3. Otherwise, emerge would think that 2.11 is greater than 2.3 an will install that version instead. - Oct 01 2005
Nice ebuild, thanks! ;) I would also say that i'd like too to see the one yakuake for desktop is a nice idea, at least as an option, but if is not necesary if you decide to implement tabs. Oh! One thing that i would also love is to make the kuake shade when I change desktop. Let me explain myself: i have the desktop configured in both kde and fvwm to auto scroll to the next page when I reach to the left or right border of the screen with my mouse pointer. When I change to the next or previous desktop I would like kuake to auto shade. Changing the focus policy does not make a difference (I have it configured to shade when losing focus). Keep the good work! ;) - Sep 25 2005
Im no expert in dcop, but I found a way to unshade the kuake using dcop. dcop `dcop | grep kuake` kuake-mainwindow#1 show Note the ` are accents, not single quotes. If I can find a way to bind this to a mouse gesture or something like that then I have a (temporal) workaround. The problem is that I am not a kde expert, and I dont even know if this is possible using just the elements that kde provide. I would need a way to bind the event of the mouse reaching the top of the screen to that command that I posted. Anyone??? - Sep 18 2005
About the idea that I posted to have the kuake unshaded when the mouse reach top of the screen, I never looked into that. I took a look to the kicker source tree. If you uncompress kdebase, then it is into kdebase-version/kicker/, into a subdir called "core" you can find the main files of the kicker sources, there is one called "unhidetrigger.cpp" wich name suggest that the secret to activate the unhide trigger lies there. As I said, I never looked into it, so I have to investigate. If I find anything usefull before than you, I will post here, so you can add that functionality if you decide it is good enough for your kuake. - Keep the good work. :) - Sep 18 2005
f12 - Sep 18 2005
Nicer that all the rest of kuakes. Good job, really. I have just one question. I would like to have it opened when the mouse reach the top of the screen automatically, is this possible? I discovered the feature to autoshade when the focus is lost, that is nice, but I would like to autoopen when the pointer reach the top of the desktop, that would be nice. - Sep 17 2005

You can change the global X cursor by modifying the file /usr/share/cursors/xorg-x11/default/index.theme, just change the line Inherit=core to Inherit=PolarCursorTheme or whatever other theme name. You can see the theme names by doing "ls /usr/share/cursors/xorg-x11". I dont remember if gnome had a tool on its control center to change the cursor. I think that there was a separate program to do that in gnome, but cant remember its name. The method above will work widely in X, under gnome, kde, or whatever wm you are using. ;) - Oct 02 2005

Hi, and thanks for your good work. Nice and very configurable theme. I wanted to ask for a simple feature. There is a feature in kde-3.5 that can bind the mouse wheel over the title of the window to make the window shade/unshade. If you could add support for that in baghira it would be fantastic. I always use that to shade windows, so, I need one less button in the title bar ;) Keep the good work! - Sep 30 2005

I agree, that kind of behaviours should be configurable via the wm and not the specific engine. That would take some weight off the engines making them faster.

- Regards and thanks again :) - Aug 17 2005
A feature that I use too much on fvwm is a mouse binding to the wheel, that, scrolling up over the tittle shades the window and scrolling down in the same place the window is unshaded again.

The wheel is currently used to cycle windows, wich is also fine, but a feature to select the concrete behaviour when scrolling over the tittle would be fantastic. So, each person can adjust the functionality that s/he preffers to give to that wheel. Just an idea.

Keep working, this theme is my chosen one (when I use kde). :) Thanks for this wonderfull thing... - Aug 16 2005

This is the ebuild i have used, works perfectly in my gentoo. Im sure there will be one in portage soon, but in the while all the gentoosers around here can use this one if they want.

As usual, just copy, paste, save as crystal-0.9.3.ebuild into your $PORTDIR_OVERLAY/x11-themes/crystal, change into that dir and do "ebuild crystal-0.9.3.ebuild digest". That should download the file. Now just do "emerge x11-themes/crystal" to emerge it. ;)

- Thanks again for this beautifull engine and regards ;) - Jul 28 2005
Thanks for this wonderfull kwin engine. I like cleanlines and this is a very nice theme for me.

For the gentoo people: I used a modified ebuild from the previous version, if anyone wants it and dralgebra have no objetion I will post it here. (dralgebra: I say that because in the ebuild is the url to the file on your website ;) )

BTW, I have had no problem at all with the libs. As someone pointed above, it seems like a missconfigured system. I would revise the gcc-config and make sure that all the environment variables referring to c/glibc are ok. ;)

For some reason, moodinKDE kills torsmo when starting kde. Without a mooding theme torsmo starts ok, with the mooding theme (doesnt matter what theme) torsmo starts but is killed before kicker is completelly loaded.

Still, I can load torsmo again once kde is loaded. No idea why this happens. I have tried multiple torsmo configs, even tried disabling the double buffer and many other things, but still, it is killed every time. Ideas?

The ebuild must be named metabar-0.8.ebuild and placed under kde-misc/metabar. Preferably under your overlay dir, so it will not be deleted next time you resync portage.

Then you need to change into the metabar dir and do "ebuild metabar-0.8.ebuild digest", and then you can emerge it.

The ebuild is modified from the original for 0.7, just commented out the arts section to work around an error, since arts is not needed anymore (good for that ;) ). So thanks goes to the original author, I dont know anything about ebuild ;) - Jul 14 2005

Agreed, kplayer is much more functional than kmplayer. For xine I preffer kaffeine, I believe it is a very nice program, even the development seems a bit slow, but still... It is functional and a very good programs.

Still, most times I use mplayer in console (no gtk version, I find the gtk thingy so much outdated and very buggy... and I save some compilation time if I dont build the gtk interface).

Also agree that plastic is a very good engine, the only wrong thing about it: it is very heavy in cpu time (im a bit maniatic about that). Most other styles are much lighter (you can easily appreciate that in the amount of time that the k menus take to display the submenus. I usually preffer a thing like reinhardt, compared to plastik it is lightning fast. Of course, in any way plastik is fantastic, when it comes to the look.

Linux is all about choices. You don't like it, you don't use it. As easy as that.

Criticism is not good if it does not bring along some constructive thoughts of offern any alternative. If you don't like what it is don't use it, or better, make something different.

As for the similarities: I say that that is pure demagogy. I can say similarities between window maker and windows also. What do we have to do? The full windows gui ideas are also copied from other places and reused since so many years ago, they were not originally in windows. Also in gnome we can see similaties with windows, and with mac, and with kde. Damn! you can even see similaties between some of the x toolkits and the interface of dosshell.

Please, offers something or shut up!

And for you sirajr, continue with your work. Seems that most people like it, so don't obey to that complains. I don't like the button, to be sincere, but you are developing it and seems to be becoming more advanced on each release. Congratulations for that.

Anyway Im not a pure kde user. Im highly tied to fvwm, but I like to try new things, and I wonder around this web to see the original things that people like you post here, even when the critics, sometimes are very unpolite.

Baghira is just another of the heavy weight fancy hyper-mega-fashion kde themes, and only can look like most modern styles, as faf as I know. You can configure it to show something similar, with the lines in the tittle and squared title corners, but it is just so heavy. I like simplicity and responsiveness in a desktop, so I like this theme. In fact I use almost always IceWM themes in KDE, most of them are simpler than KDE ones and nicer.
