Nope, I am using the last version of MPlayer (1.0rc1) and the SSA/ASS library was off - however, I did find out that when running SSA/ASS it is possible to use plain .txt-files as subtitles in SMPlayer. - Apr 25 2007
rvm, SMPlayers quality is increasing whith each release, and though I didn't feel the need for yet another movie-player when it first came out, it now is my second favourite player (out of eleven players on my system...) - it never crashes, starts about as fast as codeine (<1 second) and provides a superb design and usability. Thank you, man!

For me SMPlayer works pretty perfect now, there are only three bugs that do still bug me:

- DVD-Menus are still not handled as first title and in most cases can't be used at all - meanwhile I even tried playing a selfmade DVD (created via ManDVD), and SMPlayer always skips the menu and starts with the main movie / first episode (sometimes with a seemingly random title)

- .txt-subtitles do not work for me

- I can't move subtitles (neither via menu nor shortcuts)

Beside that, SMPlayer keeps amazing me.

Also thanks to linux3114a / Raoul for keeping track of all the new versions and compiling them for SuSE!

It starts randomly showing some 'bonus'-chapter, the navigation shows 6 titles, some of them are difficult to view since they behave odd (breaks, jumps etc.), yet single episodes can be chosen - but the menu stays inaccessible (same on single movie DVDs), SMplayer simply quits the DVD-output when choosing one of the titles (I still assume that to be the menu...)

@KPlayer: I also feel that KPlayer has a different aim than SMPlayer, which attempts to offer the various configuration-options of MPlayer to be controlled via GUI. These are two different projects, both valid in itself. By the way, the latest KPlayer-upgrade solved the problems in resizing from fullscreen back to window-mode. - Mar 16 2007
Cool app, I really like all the features it offers, and it plays evrey filetype well. I also welcome the changes in the fullscreen-mode, which make it very easy to navigat while staying in fullscreen.

Yet there are two things which keep me away to use it as a main-player on my sys. One: there are no options to configure shortcuts.

Two: The (video-)DVD-support is pretty much crap. It nevers starts playing in the menu but at some random chapter somewhere on the disc; on some DVDs it doesn't even show all chapters which are on the disc, and when I look for the right chapter to begin with by using the navigation, it stops at some chapter (might even be the menu, who knows?). This is what the log gives me:

...um, hope that didnt take too much space.

.avis, .movs and so on can be played without any proplems from DVD as well.

I really hope you can fix this, because SMPlayer seems extremely promising considering it is beta. Good luck!

There is no output refering to the bug until I close Themis after canceling reading the paths. Here it is:

There wasn't any console-output at all after commenting these lines, so I added a verbose-switch to your command:

Quote:

themis.rb:221: warning: instance variable @mainWin not initialized
kalle@linux-9asa:~/themis>

Commenting these lines did the trick! The paths are read okay, also the app itself seems to work good for both root and user, and even giving me more options than I was hoping for. Very well done, thank you! - Apr 10 2007
No doubt this is a nice feature - only it doesn't work for me. Running 'sh themis_config' I simply agree with the presets, and 'edit Actions' does appear in my context menu, but when trying to change an entry, Themis hangs while trying to read the servicemenus-paths, progressbars remain at something beetween 1 and 10% and nothing happens at all. This does not change after adapting the permissions for the folder or even when running Themis as root.

I am running openSuSE 10.2 & KDE 3.5.6.

Any suggestions how to solve this? - Apr 09 2007

Nope, I'm running a 32bit-openSuSE 10.2 on a 32bit-machine and took the package offered via smart / KDE-Playground (version 0.3-2.1@586). The URL to that channel is http://software.opensuse.org/download/KDE:/Playground/openSUSE_10.2/
- Mar 23 2007
I fetched the SuSE-package offered from KDE-Playground and installed it via smart, so installing was no problem at all. Unfortunatly I can't seem to run it properly:

My vote would be: get rid of all of them - I have 9 different movie-players (don't ask me about it...) and none of them appears in neither the basic nor the 'actions'-submenu by default. The 'play'-option is already represented in the 'open with'-submenu, so why create the same one again? Also, qeueing can be done via KPlayer itself. As I said, no other movie-player sets up special menu-entries, so KPLayer shouldn't do so too. To me it appeared way too obtrusive before I removed them. - Mar 08 2007
KPlayer is nice and I use it very often - however, there's one thing you should work on. It creates two regular entries in the KDE-optionsmenu (even when there is no mediafile in the directory) plus 5 (!) entries in the 'actions'-submenu... I know it's easy to remove them, but still you should consider not including all of them.

Still: good work, keep it up! - Mar 06 2007

...but the updated version does not - when trying to install a .rpm (on SuSE10.2 / KDE 3.5.6) it tells me: 'Programm "xdg-su" ist nicht auffindbar' ('Programm xdg-su can not be found'). The xgd-utils are installed...

The old non xdg-Version worked perfect for me (don't ask me, why I had to 'upgrade'...), so please explain how to edit the files so I can use it again.

Thanks anyway! T'is a good thingy, once it works ;). - Feb 23 2007

No, I mean: you can use *this* Kickoff-Icon for kickers smaller than the default-size, too. My Kicker is only 24 pixels wide and still your icon fits. Resizing kicker *after* installing the icon does not work though, its size would stay the same.

- Feb 22 2007
Looks good, works good - what more could we ask for? Nice thingy!

But: it actually *does* work with bars smaller than 48 pixels, like my superslim 24-pixel-bar... your description sounds as if one needs a default-size kicker to use it, which does not seem to be the case.

Thank you and keep it up! - Feb 20 2007

Um, I am afraid you will not like this answer: after running the .sh-file via console, there is no output at all (meaning no error reports or anything). - Jan 31 2007
Yes, other service-menus work fine for me (for example this one --> http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=50236 ). Actually it did install properly: the icon is there, it creates a list, yet it doesn't list all the files / folders - maximum is one third of the actual content (I tried reinstalling it three or four times, always with the same effect).

The problem might be my distro, which is SuSE - which is famous for having some atypical paths. Putting listFiles.desktop in ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus is propably okay, but I am not sure about listFiles.sh being in /usr/local/bin... - Jan 29 2007
A nice idea, yet it doesn't work for me - systemwide installation failed totally (no new entry in the Contextmenu), userwide installation worked, but the saved text does contain only a minority of the files which are contained in the folder. A pitty indeed... - Jan 28 2007

I really like Katapult and the idea behind it - but since I made it dissappear from the system tray, there's no way to change any settings or put it back into the tray. I still can use it, though, and it works really fine. I would highly apreciate some suggestions, since even un- and deinstalling could't change that. - Nov 08 2006
