To be fair, some of them may have. And i'm sure many of them have had to put a lot of effort into them. And many people put an original slant on standard themes such as vista and mac, and they should be commended.
It's just nice to see something a bit different. - Jun 14 2007
It's not really my style, but i voted you up for originality :). It has original elements in it. Its a welcome change from the 5 billion boring mac clones, 45 million boring vista clones, and 108 thousand boring murrina colour mods. All of which took lots of thought and inspiration....not. - Jun 14 2007

thanks! i've still got some more wood themes to release. after that, i'll probably start on something else. i like to try out new ideas. - May 21 2007
ok. thanks for the feedback. i can understand that, but it really is quite usable when you're actually running it. thats what i've found anyway, and i've been using Ghostly Blue for the past week and i've not found it to be a problem.
would you suggest changing the pixmap background to something less intense? - May 17 2007

thanks :). the sharp contrast was partly what i set out to do. - May 21 2007
i forgot to mention, i made the white areas transparent so that it has the same colour as the background. - May 21 2007
this is the one:

i can see exactly what you mean. if you have a look at my blurb for the Ghostly Blue theme, i've mentioned that about the intensity of the background and other 'issues'. the thing is, i actually intended for that to be the case - ie the sharp contrast of colours. i admit its intense, but i've designed several other backgrounds of a less intense nature that i can use instead. i may release it again with a suitably less intense background. i don't know yet. strangely, i didn't think those less intense backgrounds looked as effective in my eyes.

the thing is, because i'm quite a beginner and this is my first series of pixmap based themes that i've ever done, i'm playing with ideas to try something new.

a appreciate your feedback though :). thanks anyway. - May 17 2007
i don't think it looks ugly. intense, yes. ugly, no. the only reason why i made the green, the red, and the purple ones was just in case some people liked the style and wanted one in a different colour from blue. the blue one was the original theme.

one of the reasons why i did the theme in the first place was to try something new. i don't think there is anything wrong in trying to do something that's a little different.

thankyou ;) - May 18 2007
cheers for the kudos :).

yes, it happens like that on all themes where the base is dark, unfortunately. the colours don't seem to be controlled from the gtkrc file. i have tried Aerolite, Aero, Weld, wii, neutronium, GSM, H-K, kore, kore-black, kore-gtk, all the dark murrina's, and many others, and they all exhibit that trait....some themes are worse than others. there are some dark themes that have light grey writing on a light grey background so that the text is not visible at all on the widget that you mention about. even though i don't run evolution, i keep it on my system for the sole purpose of theming. i tested my theme on evolution.

dark themes are always difficult, unfortunately. - May 17 2007

glad you like it :) - May 17 2007
i find it usable ;). if i didn't, i wouldn't assume anyone else could too.

thanks for the feedback. - May 17 2007
you're spot on there! its something that i've noticed again when i was packaging it up earlier on. i originally intended to make the buttons blend with the background for most of the wood themes, but this is the only one where the buttons are a bit too well blended.
in fact, i think i will recolour this one and release it at a later date with the changes.

thanks for the feedback. - May 17 2007

thanks ;).
black? surely you're joking :D. that would mean that you wouldn't see anything at all. maybe you mean dark grey. i guess its possible. i may give it a try if you're interested in using it. - May 17 2007
hey! nice one there, Chrispy :). thanks! - May 17 2007
thanks for the kudos :).
i'm still a beginner myself, so i can only tell you how i have gone about making themes. a few months ago, i started doing simple colour mods of various themes, and this enabled me to become acquainted with the various colour controls(eg bg[NORMAL] etc) and the various widgets.
this theme stems from the first pixmap theme i have attempted. pixmap themes are rather more involved as it means that you have to create the various widgets yourself. i have found this to be useful as a reference:
http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gtk/
i think the best way to learn about theming is to first take a theme and change the colours and settings within the gtkrc file around to see what effect it has.

hope that helps. - May 17 2007
thanks - glad you like it. i really appreciate it :). i worked really hard on these themes.

dark themes are really difficult to get just right. - May 16 2007
