I'm very sorry to hear this... It's a shame that there are people around that are so pathetic they get a kick out of hindering other people.
No doubt whoever did it lives a sad an unfulfilled life anyway, so don't feel too bad :) I hope all the data is recovered soon. - Sep 14 2006

Looks very nice - what do inactive windows look like though? The screenshot makes them look as if they'd be identical... Is there any kind of differentiation between them?

If there isn't, I'd suggest that the title bar have a vertical gradient going from light to the current dark for inactive windows - May 20 2006

Perhaps in a perfect world, but this will more than likely just put people off down-rating something and lead to everything having artificially high ratings. Sure, it'd be nice for people to leave a comment and they should be urged to, but it shouldn't be a requirement imo.

I rated this down because this isn't really any kind of site content, it's just a complaint (which would probably be better aimed at site admins?) - May 13 2006

It's nice to see someone working on this. I think it would be good if it were integrated into the current window list applet as a display option - have you seen Gimmie? http://beatniksoftware.com/gimmie/index.html - Gimmie's task-grouping and window management are perfect. Having something similar in gnome-panel would be very nice - May 09 2006

What might be neat is for there to be an interface for apps to provide screenshots of themselves (or for the window manager to get one, when an application lacks support) so that when you click it, it instantly brings that up, grayed out or something with some animated 'Loading...' text, then gently cross-fades between the screenshot and the actual app (which, hopefully, are exactly the same, bar lack of saturation in the screenshot) - Mar 05 2006

It seems it didn't update properly, I tried it on a new computer and it was different :)

New bugs though - The button text highlight in dialogues is black now instead of white, and the margin in gedit no longer shows up (which is pretty critical for me, I need it for coding :))

Also, now that I try it with the grey scroll-bars, I kind of missed the black ones - I think I preferred with black on the whole, but it's all an issue of taste - maybe the theme could come with instructions on how to pick either style?

Once again, thanks for making a great theme, it's nice to see something different after all the Clearlooks colour variations :) - Feb 13 2006
To get toolbar prelight to work, either rename toolbar-prelight.png in Black/gtk-2.0/Toolbar/ to toolbutton-prelight.png, or change it in the gtkrc :)

I still get the white text highlight in dialogues on check boxes/radio buttons - See the run dialogue for an example, or Epiphany

Still, looking good and thanks for the thanks :) - Feb 13 2006
Most gtk dialogues will set a default button, i.e. a button that will get activated when you hit return. If you do an Alt+F2 in gnome, for example, the Run button is the default button. This is meant to get highlighted somehow (theme-specific) - usually it's by some sort of coloured outline. In your theme, currently, it's very slightly larger than a normal button, but hardly noticeable. Ideally, it'd have some sort of dark outline, or something like that.

Just noticed another bug too - "Toolbar/toolbutton-prelight.png" is missing, so when you mouse-over buttons in toolbars, nothing happens (normally, they appear like highlighted buttons). - Feb 13 2006
Very nice theme, I really like it and think it'd be nice to see this with a few colour variations (my top choices being green and brown :))

But unfortunately, a few prominent bugs I've come across:
- When highlighting radio buttons or check buttons in a dialogue, the associated text becomes white (and thus invisible) - The text colour should probably stay black here
- Arrows in table row headers and menus are black when they get highlighted (and thus invisible) - It would be nice if arrows became white in these situations
- Default buttons are very slightly larger than normal buttons, but otherwise no more prominent - A black outline or something, similar to other themes (e.g. Clearlooks) would be nice here

And as a preference, I think the scrollbar sliders would look better if they were the same colour as buttons, but became black when highligted/activated - As they are, I find them a little distracting.

Great theme though, I've voted good and am using it now :) - Feb 13 2006

Very cool, I'm impressed that this doesn't bog down the system hugely like other similar themes. One thing I don't like about it, however, is that the metacity theme makes the title-bar quite big and the gtk2 theme seems to force status bars to be bigger than normal too... This theme isn't really my style, but I voted good because it shows some innovation - Yes, I realise it's a lot like the Mac OS-X Garage Band theme, but there aren't many GTK themes like this and it's nice that people are experimenting with new styles (even if they're derived from existing ones on other platforms). - Dec 21 2005

I think this mock-up is great - I'm not too hot on all the ideas, but I do especially like the idea of making the menu-bar not take up any more room than it needs to.

Perhaps easy-to-follow instructions to switch dark/light scrollbars are called for? Of course I'll wait to see what happens in future versions, I'm sure you have more imagination than me :) But for now, I'll stick with 0.1 - I can't really imagine the scrollbars getting much better than they are there :) - Jan 19 2005
I love this theme, its been a long time since I came across one so original and fresh, and first of all, I must give my congratulations!

But, (and there always is, isn't there? :p) I have to say I'm sticking with 0.1 - Although I don't mind that the theme has been lightened in the later versions, I very much dislike the changes to the scrollbar - I liked them being dark as they were in 0.1. It doesn't start slow, it just hangs on starting (the application window or system tray icon never get to appear and it takes up max processor usage until I kill it) - I've e-mailed you my config and more details, hopefully we can get this sorted :) - Jun 11 2004
Excellent theme, as I've said before - But another bug, for me at least - JuK refuses to start (and takes up lots of CPU when you try) with this style applied - I've not tried messing with the settings (I'm using the brushed metal look with centered tabs). I've had this problem since before the brushed metal style came along though. - Jun 11 2004
hah, as soon as I ask how to do it, I manage it myself - Turn the title and text shadow intensity to zero - I'm still wondering about the icon-set though - Jun 10 2004
I notice in the screenshots here, the title-bar of the window blends in perfectly with the window content - No matter what settings I try, I seem to get a light-grey line between the two... How did you do that? Also, the icons used in the screenshots are nice, is there a package of them that you could download anywhere? Otherwise, fantastic new release - fixes lots of the problems I was having before, plus the brushed metal looks excellent :) - Jun 10 2004

I did use the compile flags, and although this did massively speed things up compared to without them, it still wasn't particularly fast and also, exiting the mouse-over area means the bar has to complete its animation before you can re-enter. Also, the background behind the bar doesn't get updated correctly and once the animation has finished, causes the application behind (at least gtk2 apps) to flicker redrawing - I'd much prefer something like ksmoothdock, but with an auto-hide option. No matter what compile options, kxdocker is nowhere near as smooth as ksmoothdock and I much prefer ksmoothdock's more subtle effect. Not to say that this shouldn't continue, it's just my personal opinion.

Also, no Xinerama support makes it unusable for me anyway :( - Mar 11 2004
But very slow (on my P4 2.66ghz! Come on!) and no dual-monitor support. KSmoothDock I think was a better attempt at this, but neither have really been developed to any maturity yet..

I hope this becomes usable in future versions though, lots of potential. - Mar 10 2004

... this is exactly like an existing panel called KDE Mission Control - if you have Mandrake, it's available in the texstar sources - I'm not sure however if you can build mission control for anything but mandrake though, so I imagine this is still valid :)
Mission Control is in turn derived from a control panel in another linux distro:

There's no native support for a system tray in SuperKaramba and I don't think most of the people who make themes are quite up to the challenge of creating some sort of system tray using python... When someone adds support to SuperKaramba, or someone especially talented does it in python in a theme, lots of themes will include a system tray - Jun 26 2003
Ah, this is quite a bit nicer - I like this a lot more than the first design, I'll get onto it soon... I'll examine the DynBar source, see if I can have a similar arrangement with the short-cuts...

This is what SuperKaramba themes should be like - this is an excellent theme, easily the best I've seen so far. No over-complication or fancy effects, yet still looks lovely... Hopefully this is the direction that SK themes are going in and we'll soon see many kicker replacements like this.
The only complaints I can level at it are either in the To-do list, or are inherent to SK itself. Well done :) - Sep 10 2003

The right-click menu for applications should be made to contain some of the features it does in the kicker. Of particular interest are 'To Current Desktop', 'To Desktop -> All Desktops' and 'Always on Top' - Task grouping would also be quite nice.
Also, as well as making the clock and pager configurable, it would be nice to replace the pager code with the KPager code or Kicker Pager code (I'd have thought the latter would be easier to integrate)...
These are the main reasons that I can't use this - the poor pager and lack of task-related features makes it impractical compared to the kicker.
Otherwise, great work :) - Aug 17 2003

NB: To have GTK1/2 themes work properly in Mandrake 9.1, you need to rename or move these files:

/usr/share/themes/Galaxy/gtk/gtkrc
/usr/share/themes/Galaxy/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

Everything will work fine after that, but you wont be able to use the Galaxy theme - alternatively, you could rename the directory & retain usage of the Galaxy theme (I think)

It's to do with the variables GTK_RC_PATHS and GTK2_RC_PATHS getting set to stupid values that include the Galaxy gtkrc files on KDE start-up... No idea why & no idea (yet) how to stop it from doing so... - Jun 26 2003

As well as fixing the resizing bug, it'd be nice if you made it respond to the 4th & 5th mouse buttons on intellimouses - The current Pager scrolls left on mouse4 & right on mouse5 and I find that quite useful - The same happens with the mouse-wheel (mouse-wheel up = left, down = right) - Jun 21 2003

Right click on the theme and make sure 'Use Fast Image Scaling' is disabled... Otherwise your shortcuts will look terrible - If your shortcuts look fine, likelihood is it's already disabled. Disabling it has no impact on the performance.

I did originally have a DynBar style smooth-zoom, but along with the task-bar, it seemed that SuperKaramba couldn't handle it... If you know a little python, it's not too hard to edit my code and put the DynBar style back in, but I wouldn't bother...
