I love this theme and I suspect I will be using it for a long time to come...

but there is one thing I had to change. I had to swap 'check1' with 'check2' and check3' with 'check4' because it seemed "backwards" when the selected radio button is dark and unselected are lighter. with those switched (also, switching around the 4 'option' png's) its a bit easier to use (IMHO) - Oct 01 2009

well lets see...

its an archive file, like a zip file. you can extract the contents manually and place them in the /.themes directory inside your home folder (~/.themes/).

or you can just drag and drop the archive into your appearance preferences window. Or click "install" on the appearance preferences and select the archive. - Jul 03 2009
haha... don't worry, the dark version is on it's way!

the icons are "Vamox-Celeste" and they are freakin' fantastic! - Apr 25 2009

i love your update. especially adding the gradient where the flat yellow used to be (tabs)...

[votes +good]

keep it up! - Apr 27 2009
I forgot to add:

instead of copying the color of your emerald theme, I took the colors from your buttons (very slight gradient). the metacity theme looks very badass and will match your theme perfectly! - Apr 25 2009
if you don't mind, i've done you the honor of creating a Metacity theme specifically for this theme.

I called it "LSD" but i basically just took another theme I had and changed the colors...

I want to send it to you so you can include it in your theme... can I email it to you? - Apr 25 2009
yup... looks like you're gonna add some simple gradients. thats what I try to do and I think its a great effect.

(plus its a lot easier... hahaha)

rock on! - Apr 23 2009
P.S. you really should add a metacity theme in here, even if it just somebody else's that you've changed the colors. It really helps make the theme feel more complete, just don't forget to give the original artist credit. - Apr 23 2009
I'm really liking what you are doing here. Its a really nice approach. You can probably tell from my own themes that I'm not a huge fan of the over-done glossy, vista, OS X, look that everybody else is doing.

What I've learned from this site is a low rating either means your theme is really hideous (not in your case) or just really unique.

Keep it up and don't get discouraged! Also, I would suggest releasing a couple of these themes in different colors. - Apr 23 2009

thank you for your kind statement. it sounds like you're as sick of the over-used shiny, glossy look as I am.

I was in love with this theme... until my desktop started blinking uncontrollably and I could open up any new applications. my panel wouldn't even load up. luckily, I had a terminal app called "Guake" running which i could activate with f1 and i was able to rm -rf the simplygrey folder in my ~/.icons folder.

but seriously... it was like nothing i'd ever seen! I was about ready to re-install jaunty. luckily, i just had to remove a single folder instead.

i'm getting that same error as mentioned up above... thats what gave me the idea to delete the folder.

fix this. - Apr 23 2009

hey, i'm not saying the cartoon-look is a bad thing... just that not everybody would like it so that why I made the slim version. also, i chose the font and the icons because of suggestions from comments people made. personally, cyclootram is my favorite GTK theme ever.

the "darkside" idea is pretty good... if i make the dark grey color even darker and use a dark grey instead of the red... i could really make it work. do you think it would better all dark and greyscale? or should i add some dark coloring to it?

should i use the original cyclotram (bold lines) or this slim version to make the darkside version?

thanks for the input! - Apr 23 2009

Whoa! A glossy theme that I actually like! Its amazing, but you've managed to get an exceptionally shiny blue look without making me yawn. I'm not sure what it is exactly... maybe just how everything goes together really well without look too "over-the-top". - Apr 23 2009

to be honest, at first glance, it doesn't seem too amazing... but then I noticed the slim scroll bars which really look good and give this theme a bit of uniqueness.

good job, and keep it up! - Apr 23 2009

I love the unique color scheme. I think that if you had stuck to a "normal" choice of colors, this theme would not have nearly the "eye-popping" effect that it does.

It's no vista or mac clone thats for sure! It's themes like this that really help me persuade people to use linux. Thank you for that. - Apr 23 2009

thanks for the comment... i've done a lot of updates in the last day or two... what do you think? - Apr 20 2009
go to synaptic and search for "ttf " (space after the ttf...)

download every interesting package of font in the repos... i get all the ones that arent foreign fonts... i'm not quite sure which package has it though... - Apr 19 2009
i'm going to start working on changing the background and text colors... i was thinking about releasing a few different versions including a black theme with white text.

whatcha think about that? - Apr 18 2009
hey, thanks for the comment. i was thinking the same thing about the cartoon-like icons...

i'll work on the panels... maybe by making square buttons or something...

theres still a lot of work to be done on this theme so keep checking back. - Apr 18 2009

ignore that warning about needing another engine... i'm not sure why it pops up like that, but you don't need anything else.

thank you so much.

...and yes, i'm constantly working on the tabs and notebooks.

i have some ideas in my head. i'm just working on transforming those ideas to GTK.

once we hit v1.0, we'll have the greatest theme in existence!

please help me by voting up my theme and sharing it with people. - Nov 20 2008

thanks for all the kind words...

this is my first theme and I started off just by making a hodgepodge of several other themes and combining them.

as i get better at this, a lot of the bugs will be fixed.

but i've been working a lot on my other theme called "KillBang Kazow!". if you like this theme, you might like that other one as well.

also, if you like my themes, please give me a higher rating. some jerkwads keep giving me a "bad" rating without even downloading the theme or commenting on what they don't like about it. - Nov 15 2008
there are options in openoffice that let you change the colors of default pages and such... white page with black text is what i have it set for normally.

play around with the options and you'll find it... g'luck! - Nov 14 2008
I was busy tweaking and modifying this theme so much, that i created a whole new theme. i'm going to upload it as a separate theme rather than a newer version of this theme. - Nov 10 2008
thanks for the comment.

i will be working on changing some of the bottons, and column headers and making them more metallic rather than gradient-based. Also I will be fixing the panel and changing the metacity theme to make it seamless.

by v2.0, this should be the ultimate theme. thank you everybody for your helpful advice! - Nov 08 2008
thanks for the help. i'm going to look into this, and by the time we hit v2.0, we should have a nicer blended metacity theme.

i'm also thinking about changing the scrollbar troughs and the column header things. it will be a big update and may take me a little while but it will be worth it. - Nov 08 2008
haha cool, thanks!

i'll get working on an emerald theme soon... i promise! - Nov 07 2008
Cool, i added CAPTCHA and now people can post anonymously. thanks again for the help.

i'm going to update the theme tonight w/ v1.01 (new radio buttons and check boxes) - Nov 07 2008
awesome... i'll do that tonight.

thanks for the tip! - Nov 07 2008
I was thinking the same thing.

I will change this soon i promise. - Nov 07 2008
thank you for your helpful advice.

1. maybe i'm just not proficient enough in theming to know how to do this, but the metacity theme stretches the background out when resizing while the gtk theme doesn't. so when the black line isn't there, the brushed background doesn't always line up. when i added the black bar, it seperated the two and made it not stick out as much. if i can learn how to keep the metaicty backgound anchored like the GTK background, i can remove the black bar and have it always remain lined up.

2. Isn't the size of the titlebar font controlled by the system? i can make it smaller using GNOME's appearance thingee. I'm also not a big fan of centered text in the titlebar. It's an easy fix and I'll see how it looks...

3. what do you mean by remove the glare? do you mean make it less shiny? i can experiment with changing it and see what happens...

4. ahhh the panel. i was waiting for somebody to mention that. i can't for the life of me get the panel to be seamless. i'm probably going to change the panel background in the future.

5. i agree. i will look into changing that. i was also thinking about maybe adding a border to that part to maybe give it some depth...

i am still new to this whole themeing thing so i will try real hard to fix these things soon. - Nov 06 2008
