I have a CVS HEAD copy of KDE installed, along with libart_lgpl, but the icons don't seem to work. Is there anything special I have to do to get it to work (like configure kdelibs with special flags?)

Am I using a version-specific method of KLibrary? I'll have to go check the documentation. For the record, what version of KDE are you compiling on? 2.x? 3.x?

Feel free to e-mail me if you want.

:) -dT- - Jun 21 2002
go ahead and add #include (lessthan)qcursor.h(greaterthan) to src/wndstatus.cpp.

(This is caused by changes in the interaction between the KDE and Qt header files. As you bring these issues up, I am correcting them in CVS, and the changes will be included in the next cumulative bugfix release. :) )

:) -dT- - Jun 19 2002
I've had it in the works for a while. I haven't quite figured out the kdm->kdm_frontend interface well enough to get it to work yet, though. If I ever get it working, it'll be here first.

:) -dT- - Jun 18 2002
Add a "#include (lessthan)qlabel.h(greaterthan)" to the top of src/ThemeEngine/MacClassic/ThemeMacClassic.h and see if that fixes the problem...

:) -dT- - Jun 18 2002
Hey KDE-Look guys, one humble request. In your PHP code, when finished with a message post (such as this), instead of just displaying the page (which leaves the POST'ed URL in the browser page- which in aIEeeee, when not paying attention, reposts your data when you refresh), how's bout redirecting the user back to the content page? Something like

Header( "Location: /content/show.php?content=$content_id" );
exit();

should suffice... It would keep morons like me from dupe-posting all the time, at least.

Keep up the great work, and my apologies for the spurious double posts...

The "Legacy" ThemeEngine supports KSplash splash screens 80% (no blinking icons). Unfortunately, I broke the Control Center Module working on trying to redesign it (to be more user-friendly), so it's kinda hard to figure out how to do it. In the meantime, you can download the Legacy mode themes which have been contributed so far, or package your own (it is pretty much a two-step process - E-mail me for details) and send them to me, and I will put it on the official website.

I am sorry that it's so rough around the edges this release. I figured that The Community didn't want to wait another 4 months for the next release, and I _really_ wanted to get this ThemeEngine code out for everyone to see. I hope to have at least SOME of the original configurability back in the next release....

Users who've gotten this running - Let me know what you think! Does everything work for you as advertised? Which system are you running it on? Any problems getting it to work? Have you tried installing themes? Etc. I want to hear as much info as you're willing to share, so I can start finalizing 1.0-RELEASE!

(You're welcome to e-mail me if you don't want to post your experiences here!)

:) -dT- - Apr 30 2002
I'm glad I fixed your problem. ENJOY!! :) -dT- - Apr 30 2002
That's my fault. Expect a 0.93.1 release shortly. (Dang.)

<:) -dT- - Apr 30 2002
It's here! I've made VAST improvements to the codebase, and provided a few sample themes at the URL above. NOTE: The themes come with graphics which I did *not* create. If you are the author of a theme bundled here, and don't wish for it to be provided for KSplash/ML users in this way (or want it unbound from a theme pack), then send me an e-mail and I'll do your bidding.

I HOPE EVERYONE ENJOYS!!!

:) -dT- - Apr 30 2002
As an interim fix, you can replace the line:

#include <kdesktopwidget.h>

with

#include <qdesktopwidget.h>

in wndsplash.cpp, and it should compile. I've put in wrappers around that #include in the code, but it may have been put in too early to make use of QT_VERSION. Let me know if this fixes the problem, and I'll put out another patched release. :) -dT- - Mar 13 2002
Sorry that it doesn't build for you. What version of KDE and Qt are you using, out of curiousity? I'll need to hunt down what's causing the problem on that particular version so I know how to fix it. :) -dT- - Mar 13 2002
As usual, I missed some KDE3 vs KDE2 dependencies in this release. I will be adding #if wrappers to the code to solve these issues, and should be posting an update to the software tomorrow, which will correct any issues KDE2 users might have.

My apologies for the hasty release. As usual.

Ok, I know - The colors are REALLY nasty. It's an 11th hour hack, at best. I'll get to working on putting in some better default colors, along with a background image of some sort similar to the XP default (Sorry, Microsoft. :). Imitation == Flattery? Bugs != Fun. :) -dT- - Mar 11 2002

Sorry for the bad screenshot, but it really doesn't do too much yet (no jumping). I'm working on getting the core functionality working (drag-n-drop, configurability) before putting in the eye candy.

It will eventually support jumping icons (KSplash/ML does, why shouldn't this? :)), and will support icon "zooming" on mouseover, but this code is not robust enough to deal with that yet. It will be in the future.

I will be posting updates as I progress on the development of this project.

That might be a bug. I'll have to look into it.

(There does seem to be a slight issue with the way it handles the volume - Since the widget is forced-transparent, it doesn't erase/overwrite the old volume bar before drawing the new one, so it ends up looking strange. I'll need to thunk it over for a while before I can come up with a good solution to THAT one...)

It's the "realone" skin. Should be available here somewhere... Don't recall exactly where, though..

I forgot to mention - KSplash2k requires you to have at least KSplash/ML 0.94, which was also released today. It is not compatible with 0.93.1, so make sure you upgrade /ML first.

I know I know. This isn't exactly "kde-related." I provided this as an example of what KSplash/ML themes look like, and to show how they can be packaged. You can pull more themes (I'll only upload this one, to keep from cluttering KDE-Look up with junk) from the homepage URL above.

Splash screen authors, if you want tips on putting together a /ML theme, feel free to e-mail me.

This is not about politics, doofus, this is about _human decency_. If you want to post a wallpaper tribute to your leftist cause du' jour, DO SO. Nobody's stopping you.

I'll second that this is an EXCELLENT wallpaper, and a fitting tribute to those who perished as a result of (insert result here). If it "offends" your sensibilities, don't download it. Just quit bitching.

Yeah, there's a bug in the src/Icon.cpp file - Apparently, math.h is automagically included in my headers somewhere - If you add the line

#include <math.h>

(that's (LESS THAN)math.h(GREATER THAN) in standard #include format)

then it should compile. I keep meaning to fix that and re-release it, but want to whack a couple of other things first. My apologies for the trouble.

I'm actually working on writing a new screensaver which will JUST have a bouncing KDE logo. There'll be a neat catch which makes it worth it, though... I'll post more information as I make progress on it. :) -dT- - Jan 08 2002
Have you tried re-building the configure system with "make -f Makefile.cvs"? Some people have reported that this fixes their problems with my packages... (Sorry... hehehe:) -dT- - Jan 07 2002
Mostly, I referred to the sources for existing KSS modules. Feel free to e-mail me if you want... I may be able to provide some simple skeleton code for ya. :) -dT- (brian@shadowcom.net) - Jan 07 2002
What part of "joke" screensaver do you NOT understand? Have you even _seen_ any of the other software I've put here? :/ -dT- - Jan 07 2002
* "Upgraded" the windows "emulation" - Now includes "support" for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and the new, "stable" Windows .NET "Server".

* Working on adding a configuration dialog. It works ok, but doesn't accurately preview the selected item (causing it to do so kills kcmshell, should have that fixed soon ;).

Hope you enjoy being the first person in the office to "run" Windows .NET. :) -dT- - Jan 07 2002
I'm glad I can save you from unnecessary reboots. I hope you enjoy the "upgrade" I've given the screensaver. :) -dT- - Jan 07 2002

Gotcha. Thanks alot, and I'm _glad_ you like it!! :) -dT- - Nov 16 2001
So, is that a step UP or a step DOWN? :) -dT- - Nov 16 2001
Ok, that's supposed to be '#include <kdesktopwidget.h> - Nov 16 2001
As a short-term fix, can you tell if adding "#include " to ksplashml-0.73/src/wndsplash.cpp works? If it does, I'll add it to the distribution and release 0.74. :) -dT- - Nov 16 2001
Really? That's the same version I have, and it works for me. ---- humm, actually, let me check some things - perhaps my system's munging the header files in a different way.. :) -dT- - Nov 16 2001
I'm using an older distribution of the KDE buildsystem. What's involved in upgrading? :) -dT- - Nov 16 2001
Been too busy with /ML to work on Infusion lately. 0.61 is getting more stable. Yeah, it's a different scope project than KMail -- Geared up towards the Enterprise (ahem, "Exchange") user. It's not that far along, I'm afraid, but the server software (Citadel/UX) is _excellent_. :) -dT- - Nov 16 2001
As many as it takes, of course! Don't mean to flood all of you guys with too many new releases. It looks like I've put in code which breaks on older versions of KDE. May have to downgrade and put out another release... :) -dT- - Nov 16 2001
Looks like one of the patches is buggy. What version of KDE are you using? :) -dT- - Nov 16 2001
Hmmm, I think the "Status Screen" is close to what you want there.. I'd prefer not to clutter the startup process - End-Users can be confused by too much interaction... I don't think I'll implement text inside of the splash screen dialog, except in "Legacy" mode... Sorry. :) -dT- - Nov 16 2001
