That's a broken link. Just delete the old folder where Mashup is located, IE /home/.icons or /usr/share/icons and reinstall Mashup. For some reason broken links do not get over written, and must be deleted. - Jan 18 2009

He is right it is a big request to make. What about you creating your own modification? You won't loose any polish if you just convert any icons from colour to gray scale. They may be a dark and not exactly Black/White but you can adjust them with GIMP easily.

Hey just wanted to let you know that tons of links in your theme are dead. This happens with Nautilus linking. The links should be created with terminal, example "ln -sf firefox.png firefox-3.0.png" and so on. You wont be able to notice the broken links on your own system as the path is valid, but change user account or move the original icons location and you will see the problem. - Aug 04 2009

Hello Maxo,

1. The name Mashup has been registered as a trademark name by me. Please remove the reference to that name.
2. Mashup release 2.7 and all other releases prior to FIVE were under the Artistic licence, not GPL, please change that incorrect information.

Thank you - Jun 26 2009
Do you know that my theme Mashup has a morph script to change a few of those picky icons? Its easy to use, and Mashup Five will be even easier to customise when I release it in a few weeks.

Thanks - Apr 28 2009

Kinda hurts my feelings :(
Mashup contains a morph script to change the icons people don't like, ie folders or firefox. Its super easy to use, and the next release Mashup Five will be the first icon set with super secret code :)

Also this theme is using outdated icons, its easier just to run the script IMHO.

run that in the actions folder, and assuming there is a valid sleep.png icon it will create the valid links needed. See my icon theme Mashup if you need any visual confirmation of how its named. - Apr 04 2009
I can tell you put in a lot of good work with this icon theme. It's really good, maybe even change the name to Evolution! Best of luck with this set, I can see why its the top on Gnome-Look. - Jan 07 2009

I grabbed it on your devaint art page. And of course I use my own set. I also test and try hundreds of icons. If you install disfferent sets you can get a taste for their style, and also see what icons work well together or are missing. I am always making improvements to my Mashup, but the goal is not to copy your own style, just use my own. I use other sets as a gauge to make my set more robust.

Thanks - Feb 03 2009
I tried to find your new version 1.1.4 n your debian/launchpad site, but it wasn't listed. - Feb 03 2009
So you do know him? That's fishy. Well I didn't vote down your set, I only offered my honest opinion of what I thought. I'm sorry you did not see that point of view and had to delete your theme to start new. How many other themes have you killed off? Your not my enemy, but an artist that this community and I rely on the draw and contribute. Without your talents being fresh and open to new ideas other people around the Linux Universe wont be able to use them and it will be boring and copied. That is why I suggested you break out of the Human and Hydroxygen model and make a new. Your choice how you wish to use your creativity, but in my opinion I want to see more from you.

Ciao Bella,
Billy - Jan 07 2009
I find it kind of funny that all your supporters post on my icon theme with rude and nasty comments. If anything constructive criticism is healthy, but its really ironic to me that these same people are in love with your icons. That and the fact they all speak English the same way. Best of luck to you in your set though, I don't mean any harm, I hope you continue to develop your love of the arts. - Jan 07 2009

XP was the best release that Microsoft put out, but the look is very 2001. Its dated and boring. Welcome to a new world where Linux can be anything it desires, even a tribute to and old distant OS like XP. I look forward to the day your next themes can far outshine anything XP created. - Jan 30 2009

Hey bud, any chance we can get this icon in horizontal view with a centered perspective? If I use this current icon on its side it appears too much to one side, a balanced left and right would be swell.

Take a look at the Mashup of Crashbit icons I uploaded. Its pure Linux and no windows or macNcheese look. Think of it this way, Linux users can update our OS everyday of the week, the other guys wait years for a new version of the OS. Like Shuttleworth said, Linux will be moving past macs in the purty dept someday soon.

There is an alternate way to do the same thing in Gimp which creates a smaller image. Just uncheck all the defaults when you save the image, no checks will create a standard PNG and it will be smaller in size. - Nov 18 2008

While 7 zip will compress more efficiently on most files, PNG is already a compressed file type, so your not gaining much more, if 100-200 Kilobytes of space. My advice is go back to the default compression type and use 7-zip for development usage. - Nov 18 2008

I agree with you, others should be allowed to interpret and modify art as they see fit. Its like coming up with a recipe and not sharing or let other chefs use it, or always wanting to take credit for it, even if you got inspiration from somewhere else. If your art is so darn good then it will get copied alot, so deal with it and be honored that its giving life to humanity with a little color and soul. - Aug 11 2008
