Not a huge fan of stealing peoples work and using it without permission. I know some of those icons are from Jimmac which are GPL but some of them are from other artists who have copyrights on them... - Apr 11 2005

The second is my favorite of the bunch. I love what you have done with the logo and I love the soft lines and the minimalist feel. I believe I made a comment on your splash screen about my particular love of minimalist artwork.

This wallpaper is gorgeous. It blends together so well, the right amount of contrast to the right amount of smoothness...a true work of art. Its a shame I dont run Debian... - Apr 08 2005

Yes, not at all. I just recently moved back to Gnome from KDE. I have no problems with that DE and competition is always in everyones best interest.

Like you said so perfectly, the styles just conflict. The clearlooks style is clean and crisp.

I hated the stripped bars in KDE too. Not a big fan of lines on anything. Solids are always the way to go :) - Mar 05 2005
Down with KDE candy stripes. Please oh please get rid of that ghastly thing. It doesnt suit the gorgeous style...just so, ack, dont have the words but please reconsider the candy stripe. - Mar 05 2005

It will completely behave the way the current text does. So all languages will be supported.

WHOOOOWEEEE!!!! That is so cool. Thanks Jeff for helping get it in there. That is just so cool to have something in KDE for everyone to use.

I love open source and I love you guys that made all this possible :) - Feb 01 2005
Thank you. I really like the line. I like how it breaks the waves into the background and brings focus in on the text. I also really like the element it adds to the overall look...such a contrast to the fluidity of the waves that goes with the box and the other "hard" elements of the UI :) - Jan 18 2005
There are a couple of people helping to get this off the ground. I have spoken with the KDE artists in the mailing list and they *might* (stress on might) be able to get this into v3.4.

Will see how it goes. Nothing concrete yet but still got a few months to go, so hopefully it can get snuck in ;)

Thanks for the compliments :) - Jan 18 2005
No. I could possible workaround this but for now, dont count on it. I would be happy to get into KDE, then work on adding such improvements. - Jan 05 2005
All the templates and work is not vector based, but rather bitmaps. I dont know anything about SVG or what it would entail but if it can be converted then the only resizing would be to scale them down at the moment. I would have to redo the entire thing to make it true SVG and that aint going to happen any time soon.

I got positive feedback and it was suggested that they might (MIGHT), be able to sneak this into 3.4. I think that would be a treat for everyone...but not holding my breath.

To implement it now, wouldnt require to much work, but to make the entire thing SVG would no doubt require much programming and I dont think its going to be possible for 3.4 because of this.

SVG would really be nice as it would certainly solve a lot of scaling issues in everything. Its really the way to go so artists like me dont have to always work around different sizes and resolutions... - Jan 02 2005
At this point I have no idea what is going on. I receive emails from the mailing list about this and that from who, I don know.

I havent a clue how this works, who I am talking to 90% of the time or really how my art is going to actually have to be: do I have to conform to an already made template, can I make changes, etc?

They could make this process much easier unless they are happy with what they have. This process is certainly not the best and since I am not a coder, have never worked on a project before, or know my way around these facilitities, its a little overwhealming.

I will stay focused and continue my work, but you have some points there. If they loosened things up a little, more people might be interested in helping. I mean there are certainly a lot of hoops and a lot of work I have had to do and jump through just to get to this point and no one has said yeh or neh at this point, so thats a little bit of a bummer...

Will keep you guys informed. - Dec 31 2004

Thank you. I just made some changes to it and had the better part of today to polish it up. I think its pretty much finished, well I know I will tweak it some more perhaps but I dont think any more drastic changes are coming.

Still ify about the box in the bottom portion but its growing on me :)

Anyway thanks again for the compliments. - Dec 30 2004

Yep, now I understand. No I certainly dont want to do that. I dont much care for a "weberlized" KDE myself. Not a big fan of anything that heavy into XML.

I think you see were I am coming from now with this and yes, the possiblities are quite plentiful. A "Gentoo" theme was next on my list but with it themeable, it could really gain some ground for use...

I think things like this should not be overlooked to push KDE into bigger pastures :) - Dec 28 2004

I think I am the only one that likes the KDE Menu the way it is. Actually if the headers (All Applications, Actions, etc.) were able to be hidden, it would be perfect. Adding your own seperators would be really nice too.

I like simple, minimalist, and clean. This "improvement" is horrendous. Its poorly done, poorly executed and the fact that it rips off the Microsoft one almost to a tee is also dissheartening.

I looks like a mess. I hate the MS menu and think they completely fumbled on it and made it anything but usable. To try and copy it (poorly I mgiht add) is just plain wrong. - Jan 22 2005

I'm sorry but its not GPL. You got it from here: http://www.design.sochi.biz/

They hold the copyrights to it and you have no business releasing it as GPL unless you have their express written permission or unless they have released it as GPL...and I doubt that.

Esthically speeking its a very poor job. The edges are jagged, the colour of Miss Pirce is pretty aweful and the black background and text do nothing as well for a sense of unity. A good rule of thumb is if anything in your release isnt done by yourself and is not GPL, then you cant release it as such. Since the Suse logo and the images used are all GPL you are safe to use that license. If you used a picture of Jessica Alba (yum), then it wouldnt be GPL. - Dec 29 2004

I dont know what the story is with other people and their PCs but random crashes arent a common thing around my PC. This is just a waste of time that could be put into making KDE better. I guess I am not that much of a geek to find this amusing... - Dec 29 2004
