Looks good, I'd suggest:

  • stronger gradients on buttons/comboboxes, currently a bit too subtle

  • some type of effect for the selection highlights i.e., "Zero 7", "Simple Things", maybe not the glass effect but certainly something instead of the plain color

  • And perhaps some different radio buttons and check boxes - I can't see what those look like from the screenshots though.

-lacl is a new library to me. To my knowledge I don't link against -lacl but google turned up a lot of "cannot find -lacl" link errors with SuSE and applications using KDE libraries. I'd be curious to get as much details as possible from you, perhaps the whole configure, make, output. Even a make distclean afterwards. I.E.,
    ./configure --prefix=`kde-config --prefix` > log_to_maitre
    make >> log_to_maitre
    make distclean >> log_to_maitre

The point of the tango project is not to release an icon theme. Pay attention.

If it was, it might be distributed in a KDE icon package.

"The Tango Desktop Project exists to create a consistent user experience for free and Open Source software with graphical user interfaces."

It's up to the KDE community to adopt this consistency. - Jan 18 2006
The hard part is going to get everyone to agree on a standard. What's the chance we can get KDE, Gnome, and desktop environments standardized on one set of icons. Very slim.

No question, but no one should ever setup dual-booting Linux, BSDs, and Solaris to support other distribution schemes. Let the users support it and the developers keep on developing. Source is the way to distribute. Just like KDE, let the distros handle it. - Jan 22 2006
No no no. Users of other distributions can support there own packaging schemes and mechanisms. Source distribution is the one and only way a developer should _ever_ distribute packages.

Anyone using 0.4 generated trees, I'm interested to see if you've got any issues when logging out of KDE and back in.

Specifically, do the color settings get reset? Example, I've got a tree I added colorizing to, and I default to using KDE's color settings even when I selected the theme's colors. - Nov 30 2005
Oh, and no, no Lanham port. I haven't asked, but I don't think I've done it justice. - Nov 30 2005
Well, I think currently we've got three processes for making window decoration, and that's 2+ over what we had last time, so progress is good.

Method 1) Start from scratch (or a tutorial like http://www.usermode.org/docs/kwintheme.html)

    Method 2) Use decgen.

    Method 3) Use deKorator.

Starting from scratch is time consuming and in the end, having a window decoration all done in code is quick and nice, but is it all worth it for one type of design?

Decgen takes an existing KWin engine, transforms the engine for your use, and allows the designer to import images directly into the engine for use. I enjoy this because I am a perpetual tweaker, I'm always going to adjust something in code, but I'll never invest the time it takes to make one window decoration all in code.

deKorator takes decgen's premise, or idea, even further, and allows the designer to use the images he supplies the deKorator engine as the window decoration. More of the manner in which things from the Windows or even Mac world do things with things like guikit. More torwards theming I think would be reasonable.

So all in all, there just three different levels - coders should stay at method 1, tweakers and hackers at method 2, and graphics artists at method 3. IMHO of course - open to debate. - Nov 30 2005

Try something new, for example, the majority of people don't need to know who is logged in, so lose that... Most of us don't share computers and those that do, you can usually discern who is logged in via the background and color scheme. - Dec 23 2005

I noticed the .deps and .libs directories within your tree - re-run configure and make distclean - apparently you're on a x86 platform?

    kwin/config/.libs/kwin_Alphacube_config.so
kwin/config/.libs/kwin_Alphacube_config.so: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), not stripped

After the make distclean, check to make sure the .libs and .deps directories are gone, then you can repost the tarball. - Dec 08 2005
Missing libraries probably. Not sure what distribution you're using, but installing kdebase-devel on rpm-based distributions (SuSE, Mandriva, Fedora, etc.) will get the development libraries you're missing.

    HTH. - Dec 08 2005
It's worked on amd64, the author uses AMD64-based platforms exclusively... I've talked to him. ;)

I talked to stoned already, something in the tree isn't clean. AMD64 users can re-run configure and make distclean - that will fix the problem.

John, you might want to configure and make distclean as well, maybe you have some compile x86 objects floating around that amd64 users can't link against. - Dec 08 2005

    Fresh design pootie, nice job.

In the future too, you can tell the deco not to draw the help button if you want.

    Inside the function
    inline void TemplateClient::addButtons(QBoxLayout *layout, const QString &s) {
remove the "case 'H' : " line to the "break;" line.

By the way - I just finished up support for colorizing. Decgen 0.4 now supports KDE's color settings. I've only tried this with my template, look for decgen 0.4 sometime this week. - Nov 28 2005
