You know, that is an extraordinarily good idea that I can't believe I didn't think of at some point. :) I think I'll do that. Thanks for the tip! - Sep 18 2010
If you still have the regular, default Gnome notification applet running in the Gnome-panel up top or wherever you keep your default panel then it will cause this issue. If you search on how to get rid of Gnome-panel altogether or even if you just get rid of the notification applet on the Gnome-panel then AWN should be able to use its replacement notification applet properly. Hope this helps, cheers! - Aug 17 2010
It is the 'notification daemon' applet; just like any other applet it can be added and moved to wherever you want it. ;) - Aug 15 2010

I like it! I also like your desktop, especially the dock. Out of curiosity is that dock you're using just a screenlet or is it a modified theme of one of the many actual docks out there? - Sep 16 2010

It truly is a very big shame, I know exactly what you're saying. Linux gives people lots of choice but many of those choices are pretty much hacks and/or can destroy your computer. Also as you said hardware support is definitely lacking. I really hope Linux will improve in the near future but I'm not holding my breath. Sorry to hear about all your troubles! :(

If you ever try to use this theme on another machine you should check out my Vox Populi theme as it is in fact the continuation of the UbuntuFrost project and imho looks much nicer. :) - Sep 16 2010
Did you get it to work? - Jan 28 2010
Ok, I'll upload it... I am sporting a 9800GTX+ though so just be aware that if you import these settings it may bring some computers to a screeching halt - you should be alright so long as you've got a decent graphics card with drivers installed. ;) - Jan 28 2010
In fact I have been rather active on this site lately, good job noticing? Since I took that screenshot I have actually removed gufw simply because I do not need it and it interferes with giver which I use rather often - I do not think it can be considered paranoid though to simply look into having a firewall... even if you are running Linux. G'day. - Jan 26 2010
Hmm, and you did NOT include the quotes, right? Are you running Mint with the default 'Mint menu' by chance? In Ubuntu the main menu transparency depends upon the 'dropdownmenu' string but in Mint this may be different as the Mint menu was written separately from the normal Gnome menu and is unique to Mint. Also I just discovered today that you can make the actual gnome-panel and its applets(such as the calendar) transparent by using the string 'name=gnome-panel' if you want to try that out too. I am sorry I can't be much more help but I am not certain why you are having such issues. Good luck! - Jan 18 2010
Thank you, I'm glad you like it! You will want to open up your CompizConfig settings and navigate to 'opacity, brightness and saturation'. Under 'window specific settings' click 'new'. In the dialog that pops up enter "Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu | Utility | Tooltip" or the equivalent in Russian if ccsm is translated I s'pose, you may have to look that up. Next I have my 'window value' set to 83 but of course you can use whatever you like best - it is simply an alpha-channel measure of sorts with 100 being no transparency and 0 being invisible(I recommend not setting it to 0 but if you do, and all else fails, you can switch to Metacity and fix things up). Now just make sure that the 'opacity, brightness and saturation' effect is enabled and you should be up and running. ;) - Jan 17 2010
After doing a bit of searching I think I have found the problem - unfortunately it sounds fairly conclusive that this is an ATI driver issue. From what I've read the blur plugin worked fine on ATI cards back in the Ubuntu Hardy timeframe but the driver has since had a regression of sorts. Below are posted some links I found for evidence - doesn't look like there is any fix yet, sorry mate!!

One thought I do have is that perhaps some other theme that uses a different rendering engine would work(this one uses vrunner 0.2) but I quite doubt it.

Finally a very nice theme for Gnome! There are a number of issues I would like to report and some suggestions to give though. Note I am running Ubuntu 10.04 and of course these may or may not appear in other distros or releases.

1) I would prefer 32x32px icons in the menus like most themes have.
2) The clock applet has rounded edges which is awesome but the hard, rectangular edges still exist on the outside. It would be awesome if you could get rid of these outer, rectangular edges.
3) The volume menu in Ubuntu Lucid is having some issues with the background colour of the slider not matching the black menu.
4) The theme by default seems to refer to an icon theme which you probably have on your computer but that no one else has by default and which doesn't seem to be included in the folder with your theme. Perhaps you could at least add another link to your gnome-look page linking to where that icon set can be downloaded from?
5) On Nautilus and nautilus-like apps a little rounded arrow looking thing shows up in the lower right corner in the location where you would drag the window to enlarge it. I don't know if it is there intentionally or not but my opinion, for what its worth, is that it would look a lot nicer not having anything there.
6) Also in Nautilus when you click on the 'Icon View' tab its menu is a black menu like all the rest of the system menus. This seems to be a common issue in all dark themes I've seen so far. If it would be possible to change just that specific nautilus 'menu' to something lighter that matches the greyish colour of the rest of that interface instead of having it be black I think it would look a lot better.
7) Would it be possible to make all the drop down menus rounded sort of like you did with the clock-applet? I have never seen it done but if you could I think it would look great for just the bottom two corners of all the menus to be rounded!

I love this theme though, it is great! I just hope that it can become even better! If you need any screenshots or clarifications from me let me know.

Thanks for such an awesome theme,
Brian - May 30 2010

I really like:
*the current thicker titlebar
*the current rounded bottom edges
*everything else I can think of

Could be improved:
*Could you possibly make the buttons such that it is more obvious when you move the mouse over them, not too much of a colour change or glow but just a slight hue change or something.
*could you make the menu selection look more like it does in this theme and other related themes:
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Tourmaline?content=118287
...I just am not a big fan of the default selection look for menus... keep in mind I am not saying your theme should have a dark look but just that the shape of the selection area shouldn't attempt to be glossy imho.
*When you open up an 'about' dialog in an app - something that only has the close button - is it possible in this situation to use a fully rounded close button instead of the usual one?

Fabulous work mate! I am simply pointing out what I notice so it can be improved even more! Thanks a ton! - Feb 04 2010
I don't even remember if I have already commented but wow this would be a fabulous default theme... I really hope Canonical chooses this one! Nice work! - Feb 04 2010

I know this is a long time after your post but this is how: in terminal type in 'sudo nautilus' then navigate to that location and do your dirt work... afterwards exit the nautilus browser first and then the terminal. I think technically you are supposed to use gksudo but I always just use sudo and it works fine. - Feb 02 2010

Are you using an ATI card? I did some research after someone previously was complaining they couldn't get the blurring to work and found that the ATI drivers have had some sort of regression that causes the blur plugin not to work. Perhaps this is the issue, sorry I did not think of this earlier. - Jan 31 2010

I think I discovered something that may help in fixing this issue, I think it has something to do with the 'Titlebar object layout' settings. The current theme has all the extra buttons using this setting:
A()Y():T:H()S()N()X()C

If I change the setting to more of a normal layout the issue goes away:
(4)I(6)T::HNXC

So maybe something in there is just formatted incorrectly? Or perhaps this is a universal Emerald issue when a theme uses the extra buttons such as what you used in this theme. Hope this helps. - Jan 26 2010
