The problem sounds exactly like the kde prefix is not detected automatically. Why do you assume that it has been? Have you tried to configure it using the kde prefix? - Dec 02 2005

Same thing here. It is corrected easily by applying the color theme again in kcontrol. I haven't thought to mention it because I never reboot. - Nov 30 2005
The main difference is that decgen is a set of tools allowing you to make a native window decoration, it transforms the images into code. The reason I prefer this is that settings such as button placement, spacing, caption height, app-icon placement, and many other things can be edited easily. Another reason I prefer decgen is that the packages are put together neatly and you don't have to keep track of image directories. I don't mean to say that deKorator isn't a good tool, just pointing out some of the benefits of decgen. - Nov 29 2005
Thanks for another great release. The colorize function is very nice, it is very well implemented and done quite tastefully in my opinion. My only wish now is for more configuration options when coloring the buttons. Great job! thanks a million. - Nov 28 2005

would it be possible to still have the buttons and such in seperate directories within the tarball, and then inside of the configuration utility you could choose which button, deco, etc...? For example when I download a dekorator theme now I have to extract the 3 directories within the archive and choose them manually. Instead dekorator could pick them up without extracting them and let me choose from the different sets of buttons and such inside kcontrol. I don't know if that is even a possibility, but it would be nice. - Nov 29 2005
I don't know about you but my IceWM for kde doesn't support colorization, or masking. dekorator is already better than icewm. I would love to see it read themes from compressed packages, so you could just have a bunch of tarballs in a specified directory and it would give you a choice of the available themes. - Nov 29 2005
nice, I can't wait to get a look at it. - Nov 17 2005
That is sad to hear. metal4kde is a great style, one of my favorites. Hope it makes a comeback one day ;) - Nov 17 2005
Any work being done on metal4kde? There were some screenshots of an upgrade at one time, then no news for quite some time. I would love to see some more of that theme/windeco as well :) . - Nov 17 2005
I like the idea very much. Especially the idea of being able to colorize the decorations. How is the speed of the deco when in use? - Nov 17 2005

my system is giving me a bit of trouble, with the date/time believe it or not. So until I can get a fixed package up here is a fix posted by maitre for the exact same problem.

cd cohjay-0.1
find | while read filename
do
touch $filename
done

(fixes the timestamps)

Hope it helps, thanks maitre. - Nov 29 2005
I keep getting this response to my packages, my clock must be all screwed up. Thanks for letting me know, I'll have a look. - Nov 29 2005

Sorry about that. I wasn't too sure about this causing anyone any problems, it was meant to be a precaution. I will stick with the name in the future. - Nov 29 2005
Take a look in the packagename.h file under the kwin directory. There are several fairly simple settings in there one of which is the button spacing setting, which defaults to 3 I think. - Nov 29 2005
Thanks. Can't wait for the release :) - Nov 28 2005

Growler is a commercial windowblinds theme, so I am sure the license is restrictive. But I hadn't considered the OSX and Windows ports that float around. This window decoration has quite a few changes from growler, you certainly couldn't call it a port. I guess it should be fine. By the way Growler is shown in the screenshot section if anyone wants to see the differences. - Nov 25 2005

I had no need to download it, I have used it for quite some time. I do think that you should give credit to the original author, when you don't the post can be misleading. - Nov 21 2005
I don't really understand the way this is posted. Are you simply providing the .deb such as available here http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=25615 ? Or are you claiming credit for the original code available here http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=16261 ? You should be specific about what you are posting, and you should credit the original author if you just packaged it. - Nov 21 2005

Perhaps it is a bit low, and should be raised a pixel or two? It will be easier now that the icon will be in place :) . - Nov 10 2005

Not sure how you feel that it takes creativity away. If I am correct the windecos you are talking about require quite a bit more coding skills. Decgen simply provides some of us who cannot code with a way to contribute some new things. And although mine may seem similar to you in some way to another deco, I assure you that it is made by me in gimp, no cut and paste at all. To me, more options for everyone will always be a good thing. - Nov 04 2005
no worries ;) - Nov 04 2005
thanks. - Nov 03 2005
I agree that it is important to provide tools such as decgen so that people who couldn't otherwise contribute material that requires programming can now release new things. And it is also very nice for someone to provide support as maitre has generously done for me via e-mail. Just because someone doesn't care for the work of one person doesn't render an entire tool useless. Perhaps if some more people took the time to contribute some windecs we would all be able to find one that we enjoy. Maybe my contributions don't please many people, but they are made to encourage others to do the same. I have to agree completely that it is getting old having to use plastic, keramik, etc. While I watch inferior OS users have thousands of choices. You do have the freedom not to participate, but if you aren't going to why add your 2 cents of sarcasm? - Nov 02 2005
Thanks, truth is I don't care for this one very much myself. However I did spend time to make it and although it didn't turn out like I wanted it to I figured I might as well make it available. I will probably never use it, but maybe someone will. - Nov 02 2005
Did someone force you to download and use this? I would hate for you to be forced to use something you don't want to, it would be tragic. - Nov 02 2005
