Hello gungnir,

thanks for interest for the converter app.

Can you tell me what means "with all proper open source copyrights and attributions in place".
Which xnview version would you choose?
Would you only make it run for KDE 5 or would you build in new features?
Could I participate in the future if I would like to.

Regards

1) to Home directory:
Since nconvert 5.30 the files can be converted into the same directory by using the "$%" flags. Older versions only support the conversion into your home directory.
2) to Choosen directory:
It´s not possible to choose a destination folder other than same one while executing the script. If you know your destination folder you have to modify the script by replacing the "$%" flags by e.g."/home/user/images/%". - Oct 18 2009

I added an install and uninstall script for Kubuntu in converter 3.6. Kdesu was replaced by kdesudo. - May 09 2009
The problem was solved in converter 3.0.
Now names for the converted files can be choosen or appear by default in the same directory. - Mar 01 2009
I modified the script.

Now you can choose between a local or systemwide installation.

On the other hand I changed the output names for those files who would overwrite themselves: image.jpg -> image_sepia.jpg (after sepia conversion). In some cases an input dialog appears and you can enter a special suffix.

Thanks for advice.

It's free for private use and for non comercial companies. - Dec 13 2008
Eps-files can be converted into other formats and opened in XnView.
Nconvert actually doesn´t support writing eps-files
But If you choose the option:
Imageconversion -> Convert into other file formats -> ps (Postscript)
eps files are written.

The script "uninstall_converter.sh" is part of the new version 2.3 . - Aug 10 2008
It would be very nice if you could see through the french translation. - Jul 13 2008
In converter 1.8 this resizing function was added. - Jul 06 2008
Thank´s for comment.
I will change the resize dialog for specific sizes. Then you have to enter them once for all images. Actually it works only with the preset values like 1024x768.
The XnView interface doesn´t look modern because it is from 2005 (september). The new version for linux is in alpha phase and looks much fresher. You can download it from:
ftp://ftp2.xnview.com/xnview/misc/XnViewMP-linux.tgz - Jun 29 2008
Xnview is free for privat use and for non commercial companies. - Jun 08 2008
Thank you for comment.
This servicemenu depends on xnview but could be transformed when another image editor is used.
It´s not clear why you dislike "xnview" and if you dislike "nconvert" too. But I can tell you that a new version
of "xnview" for linux is just in development. - May 18 2008
Thank you for your comment. I adjusted the script. - May 10 2008
Nconvert 4.47 is available as rpm package. It is a part of xnview. Only the newer version Nconvert 4.90 is in tgz-format.

Your suggestion concerning new packages was very helpful. I think you meant both: more comfort in installation and a wider spectrum of operating systems which have to be considered.

That´s why I added an installation script in the new version 0.6 which is a simple shell-script. - Mar 16 2008
You can find rpm-packages of "XnView" at:
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/pierre.g/xnview/endownloadlinux.html
With the program "alien" (http://linux.die.net/man/1/alien) you can convert them into deb-files. Finally you have to adjust the paths in the "exec-lines" of the file "convert.desktop". - Mar 09 2008
I don´t see a solution for this problem.
When you use the command line "$" specifies your source folder. For example:

./nconvert -resize 150 100 -q 70 -rtype lanczos -o $/thumb_%.jpg imagedirectory/*.jpg

But within this desktop-file "$" has no effect. For example:

/home/linetpc/Desktop/news/nconvert485/NConvert/nconvert -resize 150 100 -o $/thumb_%.jpg

Without "$" the target of the converted file is your home-directory, if you don´t specify another one. - Jan 20 2008
When you fill in the correct paths to the executing-file of the application (nconvert) and the output filename it works. For example:

$HOME/XnView/XnView-1.70-x86-unknown-linux2.x-static-fc4/bin/nconvert -resize 150 100 -q 70 -rtype lanczos -o $HOME/images/thumb_%.jpg
- Jan 13 2008
In the new version I build in some resize functions for several formats.
If you need other measures for image-resizing you can add another Desktop action to this desktop-file or overwrite a measure you don´t want to use.

Thank you for your suggestion! - Dec 01 2007
In the new version I took over your advice about "nview". Now you can choose if you want to view (with "nview") or open the image-file (with "xnview").

Thank you for your hint! - Dec 01 2007

Thank´s for your advice.
If the stdouts and stderrs are important for you change the script to "konsole -e sh". - Oct 26 2008
I tested GoogleEarth with

SUSE LINUX 10.1 (i586)
KDE-Version: 3.51 Level "a"
Linux Kernel 2.6.16.27-0.9-default
RAM 250 MB

and it works, although it is slow
because of only 250 MB RAM.

In my experience it works on SUSE LINUX 10.1 (i586) .
I think you need 512 MB or 1 GB RAM minimum.

For this problem you can consult:

Some distributions like Suse 10.1. doesn´t come preinstalled with a chm-viewer like "KchmViewer" or "xchm". It´s an alternative way to look at chm-files.

What default viewer for chm-files do you use in konqueror? - Jan 13 2008
