Oh, by the way.. it does look nicer than the normal Kicker though :)

But still.. - Jul 03 2003
Nooooooooo!! !!!

- Those tooltips shouldn't be ordinairy Qt tips, they just don't fit with the dock
- The dock isn't redrawn correctly (+space behind the tooltips isn't redrawn)
- Removing the transparancy and the transparent icons (on top of the desktop/windows) is not making it more or less usable.

Too bad, I really liked v2, this is just a beefed up Kicker :(

I don't mean to sound like a complete jerk, but there is a reason why I liked this over the ordinairy Kicker..
Now there's no reason to use it anymore because it's the same as Kicker with smooth icon zooming and less features. - Jul 03 2003
Neh, it's probably just taking a bit longer to crash the app ;) - Jun 19 2003
Also, there's too much flickering when the dock expands.

Hope that will be solved as well :)
(most KDE program authors don't seem to care about non-flickering widgets, but for a program like this it's really important, imho) - Jun 17 2003
Heheh, version 2.0 .. :D
So we'll really soon be able to use version 100.0? :)
And then you'll have to name it 2K, XP.. ;)

Anyway, it's nice, and it doesn't lockup anymore when clicking an icon (like I mentioned in my prev message).

But now, there's another problem: When I quickly move (both using the mouse and using the pen from my tablet, but I don't think that's relevant information here) over the dock (so it expands and returns to its normal state quickly many times) it all crashes with the following message:

WARNING: KDE detected X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) \x09
Major opcode: \x0e
WARNING: KDE detected X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) \x09

P3 933, GeForce3 Ti 200 + latest official NVIDIA driver, 256 MB RAM.

When hovering over the icons it's all smooth, but it starts hogging the cpu when clicking an icon.
It does start the program, but after that I can't do anything but killing KSmoothDock.

btw. I'm not sure if it's possible, but if you could grab the mouse and catch all mouse events you could possibly make those icons scale while the user isn't even hovering over the KSmoothDock window yet :)
(of course you'd have to pass those mouse messages to other widgets by not accepting the message (ie. QMouseEvent::ignore())) - Jun 12 2003
Really nice, but totally unusable yet.
It seems to hog my cpu when opening a new window :)
(only thing I can do is kill the program)

Also, are you sure this is version 1.0?
I'd rather name it a version 0.1 or so.
(otherwise you'll be at v10 in 2 months ;) - Jun 12 2003

line 725 to 742.

I would be very thankful if you would be the first person to remove that terrible bevel from the splitter window in this theme :)

Still doesn't work here :( - Jun 23 2003
Hm, just noticed that this 'new' patched patch is the same patch as the previous patch.. :/

(same file size, same dates, same code)

So it's still crashing for me.

I think something went wrong on your side because I also (with the 'first' patch) had to add a closing bracket ('}') at the end of one of the patched files (can't remember which file anymore).

So the current patch is still a bit broken.
(nothing failed while patching so that's not the problem here) - Jun 23 2003
The second constructor does already do that, though :)

Anyway, I'll give the updated patch a try, maybe it does fix things. - Jun 23 2003
That's for the latest cvs version, btw.

Well, thank you, my desktop is a bit broken now :)

This is what I'm getting when running kdesktop:

kdesktop: setConfig()

But that bug is about stuff like the drop shadows from Nautilus.

And the drop shadows in Nautilus are NOT drop shadows.
It's just the same string drawn twice with different offsets, no blending, no interpolating, no nothing.
(that's why it doesn't make the text stand out, something the patch in this topic does do, which is good) - Jun 20 2003

Converting something doesn't mean you can re-license the stuff under the GPL.

Does the author agree with it?

(just asking since you don't mention anything about that - putting down a link to the original source doesn't give one the rights to re-license stuff either)

You should rather use theme colors for that yellow rectangle, or even better: an inner bevel.

The yellow color will look bad with some themes (and color variations).

Yes, I've got an idea: put this under the 'KDE improvements' section, not the 'Wallpaper 1024x768' section.

sigh.. :)

To make it even more clear: you've posted in this section:

You should post it here:

Awesome, that's already a lot better :)

Now we only have to get rid of the terrible calendar (buttons don't fit - KDE programmers should really be somewhat more creative) and those ugly splitter bars of course. :P

Anyway, one example of a splitter window can be found between those 2 main areas (listview and config view) in the control center.

>> It's impossible to find a style that fits everybody, so live long and prosper ;-)

Yeah, but this (the splitter issue, not your theme :) is just un-artistic (or however that should be said :P).

I'm not the only one who dislikes that splitter in most (all?) widget themes, btw.
I've read some complaints about it at as well (can't remember the link) - May 27 2003
Why is it that _every_ KDE/Qt theme out there uses those ugly beveled borders for splitter windows?

Is there some limitation in Qt or so that prevents people from making it just flat and nice instead?

Not saying this to bash on your theme, I'm just wondering why people are doing this because it does not look nice. - May 27 2003

After those moments of praise and joy, here's a bit critical post, sorry :)

I really like the idea of having a Crystal cursor set, but these images are a bit fuzzy, do not have correct shades and they don't really give me that nice Crystal feeling (especially that hand cursor).

I think they could be much better when recreating them using a vector drawing app (please correct me if I'm wrong, but to me, it looks like you've used a normal image editor (like GIMP)).

Also, cut != move ;)

Keep up the good work though, the idea is great and I'm looking forward to future improvements of this theme :) - May 20 2003

1) You're using an older version of Nautilus (newer version don't have that blue sidebar with the tabs anymore).
Also, the icon view in the newer versions of Nautilus was rewritten and a bit faster.
If you would like it to be even faster than that you could try recompiling Nautilus by disabling support for those 'anti-aliased' labels under each file name (see source code).

2) The reason why it feels so fast for you on Windows XP is because Windows has better graphics acceleration (and currently a better graphical architecture) and often better display drivers for your graphics card.
When you're using an NVIDIA card I'd really recommend to install the official Linux drivers from NVIDIA because it makes the rectangle just as fast as it is on XP.

3) Gnome doesn't crash when Nautilus crashes.
If it happens, Nautilus will just restart automatically and run happily like it's never crashed before, but it won't crash Gnome itself.
(unless your system/hardware is seriously fscked)

(note: I'm using a P3 933 - GeForce3 Ti 200)
