wow. i just checked out the screenshots. that app looks great. i wonder if they imported the synergy code or converted it to a library. i've been considering that for a long time so that i can have more control over synergy itself. my app just shells out synergy and does all integration through its log messages. works great if you don't reduce log level. if you do, then connect/disconnect, etc. messages don't work. - Apr 01 2009
I've added ssh support to the clients but it assumes you have a private/public key setup so that you don't need a password. It will be released shortly.

Thanks for the tip. - Apr 17 2007
Its funny how I never thought twice about typing in my passwords on the client machine... How do you tunnel it through ssh? I can probably add that it. - Aug 22 2006
Yeah, I'm not too experienced with setting up the build process. I'll try to iron it out a bit.

But this doesn't do the configuration. Its really just a little thing to help avoid needing the command line to run it. I've considered making it so it helps with the config, but I don't understand synergy's config process very well. - Aug 22 2006

...there is no buts. this program is good. maybe you misspelled your password the first time, and your wallet was closed when you were exitting. wallet/kmysqladmin/kde3.5.7 all work fine here. - Oct 23 2007
another reason for mysqlcc is that it was replaced by mysql query browser which is a pain in the butt to compile. I spent a few hours find old gnome packages and still fail because of dumb version issues. kmysqladmin compiled with only a minor glitch.

--btw, seems like the configure script doesn't check for ssl and it eventually gives an error while compiling. - Feb 04 2006

I'm not sure, but there is a chance that you can use io slaves to load up files, maybe you can do a wbz://home/user/picture.wbz and it returns a jpg image...

I'm not familiar with it, but that may be a way to get around the conversion... or maybe just make a library that kde can use. This can make it so other apps can possibly use wbz images. - Aug 01 2006

it is a little slow, but i'm sure that may be improved. doesn't seem to work very well with xinerama (dual monitor). it should probably hide when another window is focused (like on my second monitor).

it might be nice to have a mode where it pops up smaller thumbnails around the cursor and didn't hide all the windows. this might help improve performance a little but more importantly would be pretty cool. (these icons would have to be only for the current desktop since i'm thinking this would be useful as a taskbar replacement). - May 18 2006

Is there some specific reason why the range only allow a min of 10 seconds?

I modified it to it has a min of 2 seconds and it seems to work fine.

I think I'm also going to have to modify it so its a little bit smaller. It takes up too much room on my screen...

But nice app otherwise :) I've been looking for something like this to help me monitor my turion's speed/temp as it quickly gets hot when it runs at full speed. - Jan 19 2006

It would be nice if it were more customizable. For example on my laptop I find that my hard drive gets a bit hot as well... This can be monitored with something like "smartctrl -a /dev/hda | grep Temperature". It would be cool to also monitor cpu speed "cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep MHz" (although this is no longer temperature) - Jan 19 2006

You're absolutely right. I did have 0.1 installed (from slackware package).

When I tried to compile it myself, I again had 0.1 (First source link doesn't say version number on it). Then I downloaded the newer source. Its much better now and the application is less cluttered.

One little thing that bothers me now is that the output directory text box is cleared after finishing a job. I was converting a folder of ogg to mp3 (my car radio can only play mp3) and a few times I messed up where the second job started saving to the wrong root.

For the "Copy directory structure" it would be nice if we can tell it from where to start the directory structure. To avoid having folders like: /home/user/music2/home/user/music. This problem is very minor and I can't figure out a simple non-confusing way to prompt for this. - Jan 03 2006
Not sure if its from the package or plugins but I can't convert to wav. I don't see it as an option in settings-en/decoder. I only see:

ogg, mp3, mpc, flac, ape, wma

I have the following backends installed:

oggenc, oggdec, flac, lame, mplayer, ffmpeg

Great program, but I see a few flaws with the gui design. It took me a while to realize that there was a help button (should probably be in a menu). You can also move the settings and priority options to there too.

The add files/dir can be a toolbar and menu.

The invert/remove selected buttons out of place, they look like they would act on the textbox to the left of them, but in fact they act upon the list above them. Maybe a context menu (and normal menu) can be useful here.

The "Output directory" might be better off if it was under the file list. This way it would give a better indication of both the workflow and also to show that the output directory would be applied to the entire list, instead of just the files added. (I was added files from different directories and wasn't sure if the output directory was per add or for the entire list.

I feel that these things can make the interface a bit simpler. - Dec 30 2005

I also agree that there should be a better way to input. I just compiled and ran kalcoolus on my laptop and its very hard to use with the touchpad and the thin buttons. It would be nice to be able to type in functions.

Such a feature would also be useful for people who are copying some expression from some other source. Most (probably all) other calculators force you to retype it-- scratch that, re-click it. Your application _is_ a little better than most because it lets you see the full expression whereas other applications mimic the single 10 digit display for both answer and input.

Anyway, a text input field would be cool because then if the user messed up, there could be an "up/down" history like on the terminal that would allow him/her to edit the mistake.

I don't see how it will be hard to implement since with the current mouse input its still possible to have invalid input: try using the custom function with multiple parameters, its pretty hard to use. With a text input, I could have typed "a + test(1, 3, 4)" and gotten my answer in about 3 seconds. Mouse input took me 45 seconds, and never figured out how to set the second/third parameters.

But other than that, this application seems very good. I voted "good" for it. - Jun 29 2005

It would be cooler still if there was a way run something like this from a 10 foot interface. I there are mythtv and freevo but they seem to be specifically made for computers with tv cards on them. I just want to be able to see all of my media from my tv. I'd also want to be able to syncronize my playlists, albums, etc. with the ones from my favorite programs while on the desktop.

I'm actually thinking about making a program that would use kimdaba's database from a 10 foot UI so that I can control a slideshow from a remote control. If that goes well, maybe I'll try to do it for other media applications. - Jun 28 2005

As much as I like tree views (from the current implementation), I find that many people get scared away by them. I like this idea but I would also suggest hiding the more advanced features/settings for non power users. Something to the likes of hiding folders in C:\Program Files until the user clicks on "show files" or whatever. It would help make it easier to search for stuff.

Under System Administration I have "Boot Manager", "Linux Kernel", "Login Manager", "Sony Vaio Laptop...", etc. These are things that aren't used that often (if ever) by some people. - May 08 2004

Open up a Sidebar (Right click on kicker, Panel Menu, Add, Panel, Universal Sidebar). Right click on sidebar, add new, then you should have the kopete option there. (I had trouble with this too). Make sure kopete is running before because it doesn't seem to "grab" it if it runs after you open the sidebar tab. (in which case you have to remove the tab, launch kopete, reopen the tab) - May 08 2004

I was doing a user install and the install script couldn't find the directory:

/home/mdeanda/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/

You might want to add something like:

mkdir -p ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/

just before copying the file to avoid this error.

An impatient user would quickly give up. I think its otherwise a great little script. - May 08 2004

Nice, I like it. Is there a way to have this program (via an option of course) speed up the loading time of OO? I know that in Windows for Mozilla or Netscape they have a thing that sits in the system tray and basically loads the program (or part of it) so that it can load faster. It would be nice if we can cut down the time it takes to load OO. - Mar 11 2004

I think it would be a good idea to allow conversations windows to be inside. For example, what if your buddy list is only half a screen's height? The bottom half is wasted space.

I can imagine tabs on the bottom/top of the conversation window and the conversation window most likely at the bottom. Hmm... maybe if you can pull a tab outside of Universal Kopete so only some are tabbed. It seems like a lot of work. I wish I knew how to use KDevelop. I get a bunch of errors, but I'd try help.

I haven't used it yet, but I'm waiting for 3.2 to finish downloading so that I can try it. I just installed Kopete after using gaim for a while (I got tired of Yahoo not working) and I find Kopete to be very nice. I'll have to give it more time, but so far it looks good. - Mar 11 2004
