THis is very cool, I lvoe the theme creator it's something that I've always wanted SK to have.

In fact it has a lot fo great things not found in SK. However, I do not see the need of having two KDE programs aimed at doing the same thing jsut ina slightly different way.

It would be much easier for both the suer and developers to have one great program to develop support and extend rather than two which both have something really cool that the other doesen't.

I think you two should just merge the two programs into one SUPER KARAMBA OF AL THE KARAMBAS OUT THERE! ;) SK has some gantstic themes already written for it and many more developers and users a like are used to it, that's why it has over 18,300 downloads from KDE-LOOK alone!

I think the existing suer base should be supported, by merging the ThemeCreator and all taht good stuff from KR to SK and also maybe borrow some things from gDeskelets 0.2 like use of the XML format which sounds like a great idea and may provide reuse of Qt Designer code.

Also, C++ is good and all, but for something small like this there is nothing wrong with Python, after all the functions for SK are written in C++.

Please use my suggestions, I lvoe both of these projects and have KDE's best interests at heart, and I sincerely think that merging the best features of KR SK and GD is the way to go as I am sure many others do too. - Sep 04 2003

DrFalken, I checked at 3 cyber cafes in ym area, they were using proprietary in house software and it was written only for Windows.

I didn't find any Cybercafe which needed this kind of software, they already had the software and didn't want to go throguh the trouble of havinga herogeneous network with Linux and Windows PCs just yet.

However, I think if my idea is implemented we would see a lot more Linux in cybercafes. It is perfect for it, it's cheap and it can defintely do waht most people do at Cybercafes, e-mail, web browsing, instant messenging, a little word processing etc. However, my idea would need to have network support too.

Also marcelino, my idea is meant to help people spend only the time they want on the computer, it is not meant to completely stop the user from what he wants, it's just meant to help.

But, I guess that even kids could get away with having so little secuirirty. I am also increasingly seeing problems with having this as a SK applet, it's just becoming too complicated, it's far more than what I originally wanted which was:

set time
warning
logout

I guess it can't be implemented in SK if it is goign to be this complicated. Expect an update soon. - Sep 02 2003

I just installed SUPERKaramba 0.3 and the latest Liquid Weather ++ and I'm having a problem, ever time I click the weather icon, it quickly moves a dialog up and down and cycles through each day of the week so fast I can not see anything.

Also, I think there should be a mention that in the location dialog US residents just enter their zip code. I know its in the readme, but ti would help if it were in the dialog too.

Furthermore, when I open for example the location dialog a part of it stays on Liquid Weather until I close the dialog,a and I don't know how to get rid of this redraw problem. - Aug 24 2003

Okay, the new UI does look nicer, but it has a few problems on my system.

- Background isn't the same everywhere, SK logo background is lighter than the rest as are the icon backgrounds

- Text headlines, Open and Themes gets cut in half horizontally.

- A taskbar icon would be nice

Well, that's it, its still functional, but this just makes it look less polished

I wonder if the developer who called it an ugly hack was reffering to karamba's speed which isn't too great.

Does anyone have more info on why GDesk is supposedly architercturally superior to SK? - Aug 11 2003
From the Slashdot article:

"Hopefully this should fill that void and more, as one of the developers comments that gDesklets is the product of "months of planning" and describes Karamba as an "ugly hack"."

Is this really true, does Gdesk have a far better architecture than SK? If so, i hope that SK will learn from it as Gdesk learned from us.

Let's keep karamab #1 in its area! - Aug 11 2003
if SuperKaramba makes developing new applets as dead simple as possible and has a strong flexible plugin architecture with lots of features than its definetely going to be the leader.

What would really help it is an editor like the one in Samurize. If it continues improving at the same rate or even faster than SK will be better.

Grat job on SuperKaramba btw ;)

and yeah the GNOME equivalent is pretty good too

Okay, this is an interesting effort, but in reality its REINVENTING THE WHEEL FOR NO GOOD REASON!

Have you any idea how much work has gone into Kicker?! Instead of reinveting the wheel yet again, why not help bring Kicker up to spec!

Is it because you wouldn't be the leader? I mean really who cares, the project is a lot more important than who's leading.

This si one of the biggest problems with OSS IMO, there is so much duplicated half baked effort which really doesen't innovate, its just wirrtten by a different person and has minor changes.

Choice is good, when the new choices bring something really superior to the other one. Wouldn't it just be ebtter to work withw hat we have and make one thing good instead of 5 things medicore?

I forgot my last suggestions for the 3nd screenshot. I promise these are the very last suggestions, ever. i know I am being very picky for a couple of screenshots, but I want to show them to everyoen who doesen't know how linux looks like or says GNOME looks better ;p

Okay, please go to Konkqueror's setting->Appearance-> and uncheck word-wrap icon text so that all the icons's names will be just as long.

Next, show some more varied files, not just mp3's, show a folder with html in it (to show off the abiltiy of folders to reflect contents) one with an image, one with a text file. Than some pictures, and a text file (to show off Konqueror's preview abilities of images and text files.)

- Aug 13 2003
I've seen people license their screenshots, GPL Artistic or "who cares", but what's really the difference between Artistic and GPL? And, can a screenshot even be licensed ? - Aug 13 2003
Thanks for improving your screenshots, they are now the best on looky! I almost running out of suggestions!

I think that the second screenshot would look even better with a top/bottom split screen. (CTRL SHIFT T). The top half could be locked in position and linked to the bottom half so that any link clicked on the top half would open in the bottom half.

The top half could contain what theregister.co.uk and the bottom half could have one fo the articles open.

And also a bookmark on the toolbar like OSNEWS.com, since it has an icon could be next to the folders.

If you don't know how to do what I said please ask, I would be happy to tell you.

My other suggestiosn are for the download screenshot. First of all I think you should make a note somewhere that the download screenshot is not the same as the other screenshots, people might not click it thinking its the same thing.

now about the screenshot itself, I think it would look even better if kbounce (since the way it looks fits in great with your theme and no games have been shown) was overlapping the dark part of the shell. (to the left of the K.)

Finally, the mouse could be hovering over an icon on the kicker since that hasn't been shown yet. (of course with the icon zoom option enabled).

Otherwise I am completely clueless on how else it can be improved and believe me that's a first.

BTW: Please don't change the title color decoration in these screenshots or anything else related to color or style. The blue titlebar matches well with th menu select color and it just looks really good with silver.

Please, if you want to upload screenshots with different styles or colorschemes make another submission, but leave the Brushed Thin Keramik the way it is. I want to show these screenshots to my friends and anyone who doesen't like the way KDE looks or has never seen Linux. (after you take my last suggestions :) - Aug 13 2003
the 1st 2 screenshots in which the trash icon appears to be centered incorrectly and the star icon is in the tray.

But, i even have a suggestion for the 3rd screenshot, add some shadow at the top of the wallpaper so the mac os style menu would look better - Aug 11 2003
Please just close the star tray program (what program is it anyway) while taking the screenshot and have Konqueror with 2-3 tabs open and Tmon 1.3 is out =)

Anyway, i really like the screenshot, but the trash can also doesen't seem centered correctly with the text. - Aug 11 2003
Just one problem, in teh kicker, the little gray star does not have teh brushed background, if that's fixed and you also pop a few tabs in konqueror and align the trash text better this is probably teh ebst screenshot I've seen so far. - Aug 10 2003

You have copied it only as long as that text is highlighted. if I go to another website clicka fw links and highlight stuff I can't copy that text only the copy like in windows will work like I want it to. he is right there should be a copy option, why have a copy to option when you obviously don't need it for text.

THis is probably my biggest complaint with Konqueror, the stupid context menus they display everything even when you can't use lots of things and they aren't even shaded. They should just not be displayed when they can not be sued. For example I highlight text and it has open with as one of the options. I didn't really notice the copy problem because I always use the shortcut but this is another - in usability. Konqueror should be smarter and predic the user's msot likely actions and give him or her logical options. Another example of this is clicking an executable which will open up its source! Yes KDE users are all developers and want to hack the source.. This just shouldn't happen. - May 30 2003
