This is NOT a GNOME VS KDE submission and furthermore there are a lot of great apps for GNOME just as there are for KDE. Besides KDE apps work in GNOME and vice versa.

ANYWAY, please stay on topic and don't try to stir up others into a GNOME vs KDE flame fest.

Please tell me your opinion about the subject. - Feb 06 2003
It's the little things that you don't see on any other OS like XP or OS X which really attract people.

Right now if Linux remains in a copying contest (not always, but sometimes) why would people select it?

People want something innovative with features they can't find anywhere else.

Sure price matters, but you will probably stick with your desktop OS for at least a good 2-3 years, most people who use (not just tinker) their desktop do this.

Windows releases also follow about a 2-3 year schedule.

INNOVATE! - Nov 14 2002
I don't mean when they are selected. The filesize is displayed if it is an item regardless if it selected or not. If it is a folder the number of items in it is shown instead. This is a GREAT IDEA, it makes it so much easier to know which item your looking at without having to go through everything, it should have an option to be enabled or disabled, but IMO konqueror really eneds this too :) - Nov 11 2002
While GNOME is faster and has some very convenient things that KDE does not, KDE is my desktop of choice. I like the configuration tools, and it's customizability which IMO is much higher without opening up configuration files. In fact I think it is too high for the average user rand there should be "advanced" and "simple" buttons to accommodate both novice users and power users alike. KDE also seems to have more applications which I enjoy using and new features are added faster (can't say for sure this is a good thing).

However,if I were using a non-KDE centric distribution I might use GNOME instead, I think both desktops are pretty good. GNOME 2 is more a developer's release from what I heard though.

I want KDE to have the best of both worlds and this is why I posted this. Many people often refer to Windows as their ideal OS and compare it's feature set to Linux, if they find a feature that is in Windows and not in Linux are you going to always tell them to just use Windows?

Constructive criticism is what drives improvement in my opinion. This is very unesthetic and it is not even as functional. It should be changed, and I wanted to bring it to the attention of KDEvelopers. It would also allow greater customization in themes because the color of the blanket you spread over icons when you are in the process of selecting icons would be customizable, rounded transparent backgrounds are also much more attractive, and modern.

The way nautilus displays the size of files right under the name when they are selected IMO is also a great idea. - Nov 11 2002

Besides I think it's cool having cheerful icons that welcome you rather tahn some really dark adns cary ones :p - Dec 18 2002
No, this is fantastic news! Now more users will get to enjoy your beautiful icons. They will no longer feel left-out and also after you release 1.0 I will try to give you a extremely critical and picky review on anything and everything I think could still be improved.

I will also try to popularize your icon set by submitting news to websites like PCLINUXONLINE.COM. - Dec 17 2002
Now you've changed all of the icons I didn't like 100%, keep it coming your doing great.

This iconset will soon be complete =)

I already found a Noia Background, Splash Screen, and ICONS, and it fits perfectly with Keramik, so it's perfect ;)

Pleas eanswer my e-mails though, about Photo Impact. - Nov 23 2002
You've been able to make a lot of new icons in such a short time! They look great!!!

However, I agree with the critics, some of these icons use the same shade of blue and makes things look a little boring and reperitive. I think you should forget about your plans on releasing different variations, there are still tons of icosn to be done (look at the icons included in slick, try to make icons for everythignn that author did) for example something to replace the spinnink flower in Konqueror and a TV card icon, and so many more.

In my opinion you should focus on one set with all the best and most common suggestions you get. This way, you won't need to make different sets, everyoen will already love the first one! You should add different colors to your official set too, you don't have to make everything blue.

Focus on one set with a combination of the best looking colors and icons for everything in KDE. - Nov 16 2002
Can you have 3 separate downloads?

BASE download would have all essential Kicons, and a second version, FUll download would include all sizes, supplementary icons like Pheonix, Mozilla, GIMP, and so on.

The final would be named the SOURCE download and it would include the full set except in the Ulead Photo Impact format.

(BTW, any reason you use Ulead over Photoshop 7?) - Nov 12 2002
These icons are truly amazing! Funny, original, and great looking. Nice Mozilla icon too :)

I like this iconset as much as I like OS X 10.2's icons, which are also beautiful.

I think you shouldn't make a Noia worm iconset though, not before you are able to finish this one.

To make icons smaller you can use Xnview and resize icons ina n entire folder etc.

The intricate detail is what makes your icons stand out. The creamy beautiful look is what glued my eyes to them. Crystal isa lso cool, but it looks like galss, and is not very detailed. I think your icons look great. The only problem I found is that some have odd symbols. - Jan 02 2003
Pheonix icon makes me feel sad though.

However, I think you shouldn't be released separately. It should be listed in the NOIA KDE entry with a link to the download section. Thisway people wouldn't have to search through to find the apps and could download all of the NOIA icons they want from one place. - Nov 28 2002

Since it ws something that differentiated them from other distributions I expected it to be proprietary. I guess SUSE thought they should give back more even though they already give back sooo much more than they are required to.

Can you make this without any text or symbols, only the decoration. What I mean is take the KDE and the geecko symbol all away and submit a clean version. I personally see enough about KDE. I have the sidebar image to say KDE, all the KDE apps ahve about KDE (I have no idea wahy they did this), my wallpaper says KDE,and practically everything on my desktop starts with a K. I want my Kwin decoration to be without any refference to KDE. - Dec 18 2002
I am almost certain their window decoration is not released under the GPL and therefore it is illegal for you to post it here.

Did you check to see if it was legal to do this? I hope so. - Dec 18 2002

It's SUSE 8.1's default window decoration.

I'm not sure what license it is, but I'm allowed to burn SuSE and give it to my friends,s o I guess I could e-mail it to you.

Amibug, about Slick, are there any plans on expanding it to 64x64 and adding more non-KDE icons.

Slick is one of those iconsets which is so origianl that other icons just don't fit in to teh style. So it would be great if there could be more non-kde icons added.

THANKS! - Dec 08 2002
THAT'S A FUCKING AWESOME DESKTOP! Wow,a ll the colors mix so perfectly, it gives it sucha professional look n feel like in the Matrix. You should upload all teht hings required to make a DE like that!

Hey amibug, are you going to release larger versions of slick that include versions of non-KDE apps like Mozilla etc. and maybe in larger sizes too. The current largest size is only 64 x 64. - Dec 08 2002

for my comments in that case. I thought you lsot focus and decided to theme other oses before finishing Linux.

You have a great theme, I want it to be ready when KDE 3.1 is released, right nwo it's mostly ready buts till missing a few icons here and there.

(BTW do you make your icons in Image Ready?) - Nov 18 2002
It seems like your busier catering to the windows community than KDE, which is actually making your theme default.

WindowsBlinds skins, XP themes, Winamp skins, please try to finish Crystal first before going to Mac and Windows and all other platforms. - Nov 14 2002
Especially Food this release was totally his and he did an amazing job. I also think that us Linux users should take more icons and themes etc from the XP community, tehy have some grat stuff, like the Nokia theme for example. The have ported keramik, crystal, slick, almsot every good pieve of linux artwork to their OS, yet we stand here with almost nothing from the XP community ported to our beloved OS.

Food, I thank you for your work, it is very beautiful. - Oct 13 2002
