Based SeaJey's Seamod, but reworked (with the help of maxiwell's update) to run in conky v 1.10+ and tweaked to remove unnecessary labeling while adding more system info, including an example script which tails syslog for errors and warnings. Also, attempts to gracefully handle switching between wired and wifi networks. Tested on Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 LTS.
