I resolved the bug mentioned by Kirilo, and added support for clusty.com as requested by echoes. http://jump.fm/CMOIG For the browser request: you only need to set Opera as your default browser.
New URL to download from: http://jump.fm/IDKDK Please use this instead of the previous one!
Hello, thanks for that nice plasmoid! Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me out of the box: When I type a search word and press enter, it opens Konqueror in file manager mode, looking for a file with the name of my searched word in My Documents. I have to open and close the config dialogue (I don't have to manipulate it*) in order to make it search with google or the like. *By the way: Checking/unchecking the option "show icon" does nothing.
could you also add support for other browsers? i'd like opera support.
could you add support for http://clusty.com/? thanks.
Working fine with the Kubuntu Jaunty (alpha-4). Thank you of the useful plasma widget.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions guys. I'll try to satisfy all your requests. However I'm a little bit busy so I'can promise It'll will be done quickly. About the mnemonic that could be a good idea as AngelBlue01 suggest. However I think that is not as user frendly as drop down icons like dovidhalevi said or a combo. Including both way would be the best. Cheers :)
I've been looking for a replacement for Dave's Quick Search Deskbar (http://dqsd.net) for Windows, which allows users to type a mnemonic for a search engine (such as gg for Google) and hit Enter and their browser opens to the search results, this is pretty close. If that's your goal, which I find more intuitive than having to switch search engines manually, maybe use the same source as Konqueror since it already supports that kind of searching from its address bar. Also DQSD supports a bunch of search engines by default, some of which it would be nice if your plasmoid supported regardless of your goals for this gadget: A9 Track Airborne Express Packages About Allocine.com Area Code Info Cambridgesoft ChemACX.com Audubon Ad Tunes AcronymFinder Ask Jeeves - Ask.com Alarm A List Apart AllPodcasts All Music Guide (AMG) amazon.com AccessMedicine Amo's Online Crossword Dictionary Analyze HTTP Headers Anagrams Anonymizer Answers.com search Ant Task help pages AnyWho AOL Instant Messaging (AIM) Way Back Machine ARIN Whois Database Search All Recipes Base Conversion: ASCII Character Active-Server-Pages FAQ AnandTech Atomica AusRegistry Auto Linker AltaVista AccuWeather Forecast aytozon Base64 Encoder/Decoder Babel Fish Language Translation ThinkBabyNames YahooGroups Ban-Bot Blockbuster BestBuy Become Bigfoot Email Bible Search BigCharts Stock Quotes Biographies Blue Letter Bible Blingo Blinkx TV Borland Newsgroups Bomis Bartlett's Familiar Quotations BrainBoost Encyclopedia Britannica Browsershots BetaNews cacheability Engine Query Canadian Tire Change case Gracenote CDDB CDNOW Cambridge Dictionaries Online Chapters cheap-cds.com CheckDNS Cambridgesoft Chemfinder chmod conversion Chmoogle CIseek French verbs conjugation Calculate Clusty the clustering engine CNN News ColorCombos Comic Strip Measurement Converter copys.com Country and Western Pickers of the Internet Comprehensive Perl Archive Network C/C++ Reference CodeProject (CP) Astalavista metacritic Consumer Search Content Type Listings city-data.com Currency Conversion Daypop DoubleTrust Big Bertha Says: Default Passwords DynaGen Domain Search Track DHL Packages French dictionnary Dizionario italiano Garzanti e inglese-italiano Hazon Dictionary.com Driving Directions Del.icio.us Search DealTime Price Comparison CNET Download.com DevelopMentor List Archives DNSStuff.com DomainsDB DVDPriceSearch.com Dogpile DragonSoft Vulnerability DataBase DrinkStreet Downseek DynDns.org everything2 eBay UK eBay Ebuyer Ellen G. Very nice to have when the browser is not up (all the browsers have their own by now). Suggestions: 1. Drop down like in Opera's Icon plus drop down to choose search site. 2. User can add their own. Most of these have simple syntax like www.,... search=%s or something like that. 3. Other canned searches such as answers.com. Again, Opera's is a nice implementation. 4. Keyboard quick-search off clipboard? 5. Finally, your own more compact browser window--kde/qt4 has tools and netkit also is available (used by goldendict, for example). More compact and lightweight than hitting konqueror.
very usefull plasmoid..... Works well with Arch (KDEmod Chakra) I created a AUR build for Arch here: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=23928
ohh yea and a pacman PKG for Arch can be downloaded here: http://f.imagehost.org/download/0211/searchmoid-plasmoid-kdemod-0_1-1-i686_pkg_tar
It would be nice, if there would be the option, to use the localized sites like de.wikipedia.org. I have build packages for openSUSE, which can be found here: http://software.opensuse.org/search?baseproject=ALL&p=1&q=plasmoid-searchmoid
